KraftMaid Home Additions & ADU: The Houston Owner’s Guide
A KraftMaid-equipped home addition or ADU in Houston typically runs between $45,000 and $130,000 installed, depending on square footage, foundation work, and the cabinetry package you select. Bradford Remodeling Co Houston supplies and installs KraftMaid cabinetry as part of full addition and ADU builds, from kitchenette cabinets in a garage apartment to a full kitchen and bath package in a detached unit. We do not sell loose KraftMaid cabinet doors or drawer fronts as a standalone retail item – we install them as part of a documented scope.
Where most Houston homeowners run into trouble with KraftMaid in an addition or ADU is not the cabinet box itself. It’s the installation environment. Houston’s humidity cycles swell and shrink door panels. A slab foundation that shifts after last summer’s drought can throw a cabinet run out of level. The failure usually shows up as doors that no longer close square, drawer fronts that bind, or a hinge plate pulling loose from the side panel after years of thermal movement.
Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid builds two cabinet lines that matter for home additions and ADUs in Houston: the standard KraftMaid line (sold through big-box and independent dealers) and the KraftMaid Vantage line, which offers deeper wall cabinets and more specialty storage. Both use the same face-frame construction method and 1/2-inch plywood or furniture-board side panels, depending on the series. The Vantage line gives you about 3 extra inches of depth on wall cabinets, which matters in a compact ADU kitchen where every inch of counter-to-cabinet clearance counts.
If your addition was built in the last 15 years, check the inside of a drawer box or the back side of a door for a small printed label with the cabinet’s series and finish code. That label is the fastest way to match a replacement door, drawer front, or hinge. Without it, we measure the overlay, the hinge bore pattern, and the door profile to identify what you have. Some older KraftMaid lines used a partial-overlay hinge pattern that is no longer in production; when we hit that, we swap the hinge plates and doors as a matched set rather than forcing a one-off part that will not sit flush.
One thing worth knowing: KraftMaid face frames are not interchangeable across product generations. A door from the current Vantage catalog will not fit a 20-year-old standard-line cabinet without modifying the hinge bore. We order OEM KraftMaid doors and drawer fronts when the series is still in production, and we use a local Houston millwork shop for color- and profile-matched doors when a line has been discontinued. Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent contracting company – we are not a KraftMaid dealer and not affiliated with the manufacturer.

Signs Your KraftMaid Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Doors that rub the face frame at the top or bottom. This is almost always hinge wear combined with humidity swing. The hinge plate loses tension over thousands of open-close cycles, and a Houston summer will swell the door enough to drag.
- Drawer fronts that sit crooked or leave an uneven gap. The drawer guide has worn, or the drawer box itself has loosened at the dovetail. In a rental ADU, this happens faster from tenant use.
- A hinge plate that pulls out of the side panel with the screw still in it. The particleboard side panel has lost its hold. This is common in unconditioned additions and detached ADUs that get hotter than the main house.
- Finish checking or hairline cracks along the door’s center panel. KraftMaid finishes are durable, but extreme thermal cycling takes a toll. A door that sits in direct afternoon sun through a west-facing ADU window will show it first.
- Cabinet boxes pulling away from the wall or dropping at one end. This points to the mounting screws failing, not the cabinet itself. We see it when the install used drywall anchors instead of hitting studs – a shortcut that fails inside two or three Houston seasons.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Full home additions with KraftMaid cabinets in Houston run $45,000 to $130,000, and a complete ADU build ranges from $90,000 to $220,000, depending on square footage, site prep, and utility runs. If the job is a scoped repair rather than new construction – say, replacing a full run of KraftMaid doors and drawer fronts in an existing addition – the parts and labor are typically $4,000 to $13,000 as part of a kitchen refresh. Every number we give is a written, line-item price before any work starts. That is The Garrison Standard.
What that price includes: the KraftMaid doors and drawer fronts or replacement hardware, the labor to remove and rehang everything, hinge adjustment so every door closes square, and disposal of the old parts. It also includes the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the doors bind, sag, or fail at the hinge within one year, we come back and correct it at no charge. A live person answers our phone 24/7, and the price we hand you on paper is the price you pay. No numbers move at the door.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet doors and drawer fronts are not dangerous to handle – this is not high-tension spring work or electrical rough-in. If you have a single door that is slightly out of alignment, a Phillips screwdriver and a 10-minute hinge adjustment will often fix it. Tighten the hinge plate screws into the side panel first, then adjust the two adjustment screws on the hinge arm. If the screw hole in the side panel is stripped, though, stop there. Drilling and doweling a stripped hinge bore in a KraftMaid-faced panel takes a steady hand and the right jig, and a botched repair leaves you with a visible scar plus a door that still hangs wrong.
If you are dealing with multiple doors, a drawer front that is out of tolerance, or cabinets that have pulled away from the wall, that is a call to us. Matching finishes across a whole run requires the series label and a supplier account, and hanging doors so they close dead-flush across a 10-foot cabinet run is a set of skills you build over years. Call (940) 289-7658 and we will come out, read the scope, and hand you a number in writing.
FAQs

In a climate-controlled Houston home addition, KraftMaid cabinet boxes and face frames routinely last 20 to 30 years with normal use. In an unconditioned ADU or garage conversion, expect doors and drawer fronts to show wear and finish degradation in 10 to 15 years because of heat and humidity cycling. The box may be fine while the doors need replacing – that is the part we replace most often.
Yes, if the issue is a hinge or a stripped screw, we can repair it. If the door panel is cracked, warped beyond adjustment, or the finish has failed across the face, replacement is the honest call. Trying to sand and refinish a thermally checked KraftMaid door usually costs more than a new OEM door and rarely matches the surrounding finish.
For a standard ADU kitchenette or kitchen run – say, 10 to 20 doors and drawer fronts – the job is typically one day on site once the parts arrive. OEM KraftMaid orders take two to four weeks depending on the finish and series. If we are color- and profile-matching through our Houston millwork shop, expect a similar lead time. Call (940) 289-7658 for an exact quote – estimates are free.
We stock common KraftMaid hinges, hinge plates, drawer guides, and mounting hardware on our trucks so a simple repair can happen in one trip. Doors and drawer fronts are special-ordered per job because the series and finish vary too much to stock in volume. We also work with documented local suppliers for Cambria and Silestone surfaces and Kohler fixtures in the same scope, so your addition or ADU has materials with traceable specs.
Straight scope, straight number – that’s the whole conversation. Call (940) 289-7658 and we will schedule your free estimate for KraftMaid home addition or ADU cabinet work in Houston.
