Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have a Wellborn kitchen that needs remodeling, a full remodel in Houston typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet line, layout changes, and countertop selection. We stock and install Wellborn-compatible components and finish most kitchen remodels in 3 to 6 weeks once materials land. The way most Houston homeowners find us is simple: a cabinet face has delaminated at the edge, a drawer glide finally gave out after a decade of daily use, or the kitchen layout just doesn’t work anymore and the Wellborn boxes are too good to tear out and replace without a plan.
We’re Bradford Remodeling Co Houston, an independent remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with Wellborn, but we work with their cabinetry every week and know which parts interchange, which don’t, and what’s worth saving versus replacing.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn builds across three main lines: Estate (entry-level, frameless in select door styles), Premier (mid-grade, more door profiles and finish options), and Cabinetworks (full custom, upgraded hinge and glide hardware). Within each line, the door hinge pattern is the fastest way to identify what you have. Estate and Premier lines typically use a 35mm cup hinge with a 1/2-inch overlay, while Cabinetworks often ships with soft-close hardware as standard.
The compatibility gotcha we see most in Houston: Wellborn changed drawer box construction around 2018. Older boxes use a 1/2-inch side with a nailed corner block. Newer ones use a 5/8-inch side with dovetail joinery. A replacement drawer box from a 2015 kitchen won’t always seat correctly in a 2021 cabinet frame without shimming. We measure the side thickness and corner joinery before we order anything, because ordering the wrong box wastes two weeks and a return trip.
For hinges, glides, and door bumpers, quality aftermarket parts from Blum or Salice match or exceed OEM specs on most Wellborn lines. For cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and finish-matched panels, we only use Wellborn factory parts. The finish codes don’t cross-reference cleanly to aftermarket paint or stain matching, and in Houston’s humidity, a mismatched finish shows within a season.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer glide sticks or drops on one side. The nylon roller inside the glide has worn flat or cracked. This is the number-one failure we see in Houston, because humidity swells the drawer box slightly and accelerates roller wear. The fix is a glide replacement, not a drawer replacement.
- Hinge won’t hold the door closed. The spring inside the hinge has failed, or the mounting plate has pulled loose from the cabinet face. If the screw holes are stripped, we install a threaded insert rather than a bigger screw, which keeps the face frame intact.
- Cabinet door edge feels rough or shows a hairline split. This is moisture penetration at the edge banding. Houston’s summer humidity gets into the seam and the substrate swells. Once the edge banding lifts, it won’t reseal on its own.
- Face frame joint opens at the corner. The original fasteners have worked loose after years of door slams and seasonal humidity cycles. The frame needs to be pulled square and re-fastened before the countertop load makes it worse.
- Finish is cloudy or peeling near the sink or dishwasher. Steam and water splash have broken down the conversion varnish. This is refinish territory, not a touch-up job, and it usually means the whole door set needs to be stripped and re-sprayed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Wellborn kitchen remodel in Houston carries a wide range because layout changes drive most of the cost. Here’s what the line items look like:
| Scope | Houston Installed Range |

| Full kitchen remodel (Wellborn cabinets, counters, backsplash, island) | $14,000 – $45,000 |
| Cabinet installation only (existing layout, new Wellborn boxes) | $4,000 – $13,000 |
| Kitchen island installation | $3,000 – $10,000 |

| Countertop replacement | $2,000 – $6,500 |
| Backsplash installation | $800 – $2,500 |
Every quote is a written line-item price before any work starts. No numbers move at the door. You’ll see the parts cost, the labor cost, and the exact scope in writing. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the install fails inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That guarantee applies to the full kitchen remodel and every part of it, and it’s on paper before we start.
DIY or Call Us?
You can replace a cabinet door bumper or clean a glide track safely. You can remove a drawer and check the glide model number stamped on the side. What you shouldn’t do is pull a cabinet face frame apart, replace a full drawer glide set, or attempt a finish match on Wellborn doors. Get the glide alignment wrong and the drawer binds and chews up the new hardware in a week. Get the finish wrong and the whole door set looks off, which matters when you’re standing in front of it three times a day.
Cabinet work isn’t dangerous the way high-tension springs or wiring is, but it is easy to turn a $200 parts job into an $800 redo. If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, call us. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s worth a service visit or something you can handle in ten minutes.
FAQs

Wellborn cabinet boxes typically last 20 to 30 years in Houston’s climate if the kitchen is ventilated and the finish is maintained. Door and drawer hardware usually lasts 8 to 15 years before glides, hinges, or bumpers need replacement. The boxes outlive the hardware, which is why component replacement is often the smarter money than a full tear-out.
Yes. Door and drawer front replacement, hinge and glide swaps, face frame re-squaring, and finish re-spray all keep the existing boxes in service. We only recommend full replacement when the boxes themselves show water damage, structural separation, or when the layout no longer functions for the way you cook and live. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll walk through what’s repairable and what’s not.
Most full remodels run 3 to 6 weeks from first day of demo to final walkthrough, assuming Wellborn factory parts and standard countertop lead times. Component replacements like drawer glides or door sets typically take 1 to 3 days on site. We give you a written schedule with the written price so you know which days the crew is there and which days we’re waiting on materials.
We stock common hardware like Blum glides, hinge plates, and door bumpers on our trucks, so a single-drawer fix usually happens in one visit. Wellborn-specific doors, drawer fronts, and finish-matched panels are ordered direct from the factory, which runs 2 to 4 weeks depending on the line. We also install KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone parts and surfaces, so if your kitchen mixes brands, we’re set up for it.
