Wellborn Bathroom Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
A full Wellborn bathroom remodel in Houston typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a vanity and fixtures or gutting to the studs with a new shower system. Most Wellborn-specific work, like swapping a cabinet, vanity, or hardware set, can be completed in one to two days once parts are on hand. What usually brings Houston owners to us first is a hinge pulling loose from a door stile, a drawer slide that grinds instead of glides, or finish delamination where shower steam has worked its way into the cabinet box over four or five Houston summers.
We install and repair Wellborn cabinetry as an independent contractor. We’re not a Wellborn dealer or factory service center, but we work with Wellborn parts and specs every week, and we know where these components fail in this climate and what it costs to correct them properly.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn builds cabinet lines across three tiers: the stock Wellborn Cabinet line, the semi-custom Wellborn Select series, and the full-custom Estate and Premier lines. The bathroom-specific pieces vary by line mostly in door profile, finish availability, and interior hardware options rather than box construction. A Wellborn Select vanity door from one Houston home will not interchange with an Estate-series door from another, even if both are the same width. The hinge boring pattern, door thickness, and edge profile are built to the series spec, not shared across lines.
The fastest way to identify what you have: open the vanity door and look for a Wellborn stamp or label on the inside of the cabinet box, usually on the sink base side panel or the top drawer interior. The label gives the cabinet code, finish name, and sometimes the production date. If the label is gone, take a photo of the hinge and the door edge profile. We can match it from there. For hardware failures, OEM Wellborn hinges and drawer slides are worth the extra cost on Select, Estate, and Premier pieces, because the overlay and reveal tolerances are tight. On an older stock-line vanity, a quality aftermarket slide with matching length and extension rating will usually perform as well or better than what came out of the factory.

Signs Your Wellborn Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Door hinges pulling loose from the stile. Houston humidity cycles cause the MDF or wood stile to expand and contract, and the original hinge screws lose their bite. If you tighten them and they spin, the screw hole is wallowed out and the door will sag again within weeks.
- Drawer slides grinding, sticking, or listing to one side. Bathroom humidity carries fine mineral residue and, over time, it clings to the nylon rollers or ball bearings in the slide. Once one side binds, the drawer tracks unevenly and the slide wears against itself until it fails outright.
- Finish clouding or peeling on the lower cabinet faces. This is the classic Houston bathroom failure. Steam from hot showers settles against the vanity face, and if the finish edge was never sealed at the factory or the door edge is nicked, moisture wicks into the wood. The first sign is a hazy white film that eventually turns into raised, flaking finish.
- Soft-close mechanism gone dead. The damper inside a Wellborn soft-close hinge or slide is a small cylinder that loses fluid or seals over time. The door closes with a hard click instead of easing shut. This is not a full cabinet failure, but it’s the first sign the hardware is aging out.
- Water damage at the toe kick or cabinet base. A slow plumbing leak or repeated floor moisture wicks up through the cabinet bottom. The box swells, the toe kick delaminates, and the cabinet starts to hold a musty smell. By the time you see it, the bottom panel usually needs replacement, not just a patch.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

The $9,000 to $28,000 range for Wellborn bathroom remodeling in Houston covers a broad scope. At the lower end, you’re looking at a single-vanity replacement, new countertop with an under-mount sink, faucet swap, and hardware refresh. At the upper end, you’re into a full gut: new Wellborn double vanity, custom shower with tile or a solid-surface system, new flooring, lighting, and a water closet area. Mid-range jobs, the most common we do, run $14,000 to $19,000 and include a new vanity, quartz or solid-surface top, a tub-to-shower conversion or new shower surround, and finish plumbing.
Every bid we write in Houston includes a line-item parts cost, a labor figure, and a waste and disposal line. No combined “materials and labor” number that hides the math. If you’re replacing a single Wellborn vanity door or a drawer box, that’s a smaller job, typically a few hundred dollars in parts and one service call. Every project, from a hinge swap to a full remodel, carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work does not hold for a full year, we return and correct it at no charge. That is in writing, handed to you at job close, along with the signed scope and the model numbers of every part we installed.
DIY or Call Us?
Some of this work is safe to assess yourself. You can close a door and watch whether the top or bottom edge strikes first. You can open a drawer and feel for a hitch in the slide. You can run your hand along a cabinet bottom and feel for swelling. What goes wrong for Houston homeowners is when diagnosis turns into repair. A sagging Wellborn door is not fixed by longer screws, not permanently. Wallowed hinge holes need to be plugged and re-drilled, or the door will sag again. A peeling finish needs the door face stripped and re-sprayed in a matched Wellborn color, which is a booth job, not a can-of-poly job.
There is no serious safety hazard in cabinet hardware repair the way there is with garage springs or electrical panels. The hazard here is money badly spent. Buying the wrong slide, drilling the wrong hinge pattern, or color-matching a finish by eye and missing by two shades is how a $200 repair becomes a $900 door replacement. If you are not certain of the model and spec, call us at (940) 289-7658. We’ll identify the part and give you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs

In a properly ventilated Houston bathroom, Wellborn cabinets typically last 15 to 25 years before hardware or finish failures begin to show. In a bathroom with no exhaust fan or a fan that never gets run, that figure drops by half, because steam does more damage to the cabinet box than the doors themselves.
Yes, in most cases. Hinge holes can be plugged and re-bored, delaminated edges can be re-glued and clamped, and scratched or clouded faces can be stripped and re-finished in a matched Wellborn color. Replacement is the better call only when the door core has swelled from water, because that deformation will not clamp out. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll tell you which side of that line your door is on.
A single-vanity swap, including disconnect, removal, new cabinet set, countertop, sink, faucet, and re-connect, is typically one working day in Houston. A full bathroom remodel with a new Wellborn vanity, shower, and flooring takes two to four weeks depending on scope and material lead times.
We stock common failure items on our trucks: soft-close hinges, standard undermount drawer slides, and hardware in common Wellborn finishes. Custom door profiles, matched finishes, and Estate or Premier series pieces are ordered to spec, and lead times in Houston currently run ten days to four weeks depending on the line. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll give you a straight answer on your specific part before you commit to anything.
