Cambria Home Additions & ADU: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Cambria home additions and ADU projects in Houston typically run $45,000 – $130,000 for a full build, with attached ADUs landing between $90,000 and $220,000 depending on square footage, foundation work, and finish level. We install Cambria surfaces throughout these projects, and when a Cambria component fails or arrives damaged, we match the slab, fabricate the replacement, and get it installed without holding up the rest of the job. The most common discovery point is a cracked slab, a failed seam, or a delaminated edge band after cabinetry settles or the Texas clay soil under a new addition shifts.
If you’re reading this, you probably have a Cambria-top vanity, island, or wet bar in a space we built or another contractor built, and a piece of it has failed. Here’s what that part is, what it costs to replace in Houston, and how we handle it.
Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria quartz is not manufactured like natural stone. It’s a controlled-engineered slab with consistent thickness and color, which is good news when you need a replacement. We work with Cambria’s full design palette across home additions and ADUs in Houston, and the specifications are traceable if you know where to look. The slab identification sticker lives on the backside of the material or under the sink deck. That sticker carries the design name and the lot number, both of which matter when you’re matching a slab that’s been in place for a few years.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t learn until a replacement is quoted: Cambria finishes are either polished or matte (matte is their “Cambria Matte” line), and a gloss level mismatch is visible from across the room. You cannot polish a matte finish up to gloss or buff a polished slab down to matte and keep the same visual. If your original was installed in a previous addition, check whether the surface has sheen before we order. We’ll spec the exact finish, thickness (typically 2cm or 3cm), and edge profile from the existing piece so the new part lands as a match, not a patch.
As for OEM versus aftermarket: there is no aftermarket Cambria product that is actually Cambria. Quartz is engineered per manufacturer, and Cambria’s color blends and aggregate distribution are not perfectly duplicated off-brand. For a stem wall cap, a small backsplash return, or windowsill in matching Cambria, we order the Cambria slab. For transition strips or substrates, we use materials appropriate to the application. We are an independent contractor in Houston, not a Cambria dealer or affiliate, so our recommendation is based on what holds in your house, not what moves inventory.

Signs Your Cambria Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Hairline fracture starting at a sink or cooktop cutout. The weakest points in quartz are inside corners. A crack here usually means the cabinet below has shifted, the slab was shimmed wrong, or the cutout corners were radiused too tight. The quartz failed; the cause is underneath it.
- Seam opening up or darkening along the joint. Houston humidity expands wood cabinets. When the seam beads with adhesive fill first fail due to seasonal movement, moisture gets in and turns the join dark. A re-seam with proper color-matched adhesive fixes it if the slab edges are still sound.
- Chipped edge with a bright white or grey flake exposed. Cambria chips can run deep because of the quartz aggregate. A shallow chip is repairable with color-matched fill. A chip that takes a big bite out of the edge profile usually means a replacement piece is the honest call.
- Dull patches on matte finish, especially near a range or coffee station. Abrasive cleaners or heat exposure change the surface. Cambria is heat resistant to a point, but a hot cast iron pan set directly on any quartz will leave damage. If the matte finish is compromised across a wide area, replacement or professional refinish are the options.
- Slab movement or a gap between stone and drywall. If the top visibly shifts when you lean weight on it, the substrate or cabinet base has failed. The quartz is a passenger here. Fix the framing first, then reset the stone.
In Houston, settling is not a maybe. Heavy clay soil heaves and contracts with rain and drought cycles, and we see more slab and seam failures in additions than in original construction because the new foundation and existing slab move at different rates. We plan for that in our framing and cabinet blocking before the Cambria ever goes down.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Cambria replacement within a home addition or ADU project in Houston, the installed price depends on the size of the piece, the finish match, and whether we’re reusing the cabinet or rebuilding the base. Here’s how the numbers break down:
- Cambria vanity top replacement: $2,000 – $6,500 for the slab, fabrication, edge profile, sink cutout, and install.
- Cambria island top replacement: $3,000 – $10,000, driven by slab size, overhang support, and seam count.
- Cambria backsplash return or windowsill: $800 – $2,500, including matching the existing finish and profiling.
- Full home addition or ADU build with Cambria surfaces throughout: $45,000 – $130,000, with the Cambria countertops as a line item within that scope.
Every Bradford Remodeling Co Houston quote is a written price before any work starts. No re-pricing at the door, no change orders because someone found something on day two. The written price includes the material, fabrication, delivery, installation, and haul-off of the failed piece. When we finish, you get a signed copy of our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the replacement fails inside a year, we return and correct it at no charge.
What drives the cost up: matte finish matching on older lots, large islands that need extra fabrication time, and substrates that need rebuild work before the stone goes down. What brings it down: smaller vanities, simple edge profiles, and spaces where the existing cabinet base is still level and sound.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look under the slab for the Cambria label, measure the piece’s length and depth, and take photos of the chip or crack from a few angles. That information lets us quote more accurately over the phone. What you should not do is attempt to lift, glue, or seam quartz on your own. A full Cambria slab, even a vanity-sized piece, can weigh 150 – 300 pounds. Dropping it damages the cabinet, the floor, and possibly whoever is doing the lifting. Quartz adhesive work is also not forgiving: the seam products and color-matched fill require professional training and a controlled install environment.
If the piece is cracked through a cutout or the seam has separated, a repair done wrong will fail again inside a year. That is exactly the cycle we tell Houston homeowners to avoid. Call (940) 289-7658, tell us the design name from the sticker if you can find it, and we’ll give you a straight number for the replacement.
FAQs

A properly installed Cambria slab can last 20+ years, but in Houston the lifespan gets tested by foundation movement and humidity swings. The surface itself holds up; the failure we see most is at seams and cutouts when the structure below shifts. With the right substrate prep, your Cambria should outlast the first round of cabinet hardware and still look current.
It depends on the crack location and depth. Hairline stress cracks away from cutouts can sometimes be filled and stabilized. Cracks running through a sink or cooktop corner, or edge chips that break into the profile, are replacement situations. We’ll tell you which one you have and quote the honest price. Call (940) 289-7658 and text us a photo before you decide.
Most vanity and small island replacements take 4 – 7 business days from template to install. Larger pieces or matte finish matching can run 7 – 14 days. The slow part is Cambria slab availability for older designs, but we check that before we quote so you know the schedule up front.
We stock the standard profiles and thresholds for common Cambria edges, and we order slabs to specification from the fabricator as each job requires. Keeping a full slab inventory in every design isn’t realistic in the Houston market; the design palette is too deep. What we do keep on hand is enough to start your template the same week you approve the written price.
Straight scope, straight number – that’s the whole conversation. If you have a failed Cambria piece in a home addition or ADU, call (940) 289-7658 for a free estimate. Curtis Lane or one of our team members will answer, gather the details, and give you a written price that covers the part, the install, and the guarantee. We also work heavily with KraftMaid cabinetry, Silestone surfaces, and Kohler fixtures, so if the failed Cambria piece is part of a larger repair, we can handle the full scope under one written number.
