Sterling Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Sterling fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, depending on linear footage, panel style, and whether we’re setting new posts or working with what’s already in the ground. We stock Sterling-compatible panels, posts, and hardware, and we can usually have a crew out within a few days, not weeks. Most Houston owners discover their Sterling fence has a problem the same way: a post leans after a hard rain, a gate starts dragging, or a panel works loose at the top rail after a season of Houston heat and humidity cycling the wood or composite.
We’re an independent contractor, not a Sterling dealer or affiliate. What that means for you is we match the part to your fence, price it straight, and install it by the book. Curtis Lane runs our Houston operation, and he reads a fence line the same way he reads any scope of work: fast, accurate, and without missing what’s actually wrong.
Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling makes fence systems in a few distinct lines, and the parts are not all interchangeable. The two you’ll most likely find in Houston yards are the Sterling Classic (basic dog-ear or flat-top pickets, 5/8-inch thick, 6-foot panels) and the Sterling Estate (wider pickets, usually 7/8-inch, with a heavier top and bottom rail). There’s also a Sterling aluminum line, which uses a different post and bracket system entirely. The fastest way to identify what you have: look for a stamp on the inside face of the top rail, usually near the end. It’ll show the series name and sometimes the manufacturing date.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Houston homeowners: Sterling changed their post wall thickness on the Classic line in 2019. Pre-2019 posts are a lighter gauge. If you’re replacing just one panel on a pre-2019 fence, the new panel will fit, but the bracket spacing is slightly different, and you’ll see it in the reveal lines. We know the difference because we’ve matched both versions more times than we can count. For OEM parts, Sterling still supports the Classic and Estate lines. For the aluminum line, some trim pieces are discontinued, and a good aftermarket match is your only option. We’ll tell you which is which before we order anything.

Signs Your Sterling Fence Installation Is Failing
- Posts leaning after rain. Houston’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture. A post set in concrete that doesn’t go below the frost line will heave and lean in a single wet season. You’ll see the lean first at gate posts, because they carry the most load.
- Gate dragging or not latching. The bottom hinge usually goes first on a Sterling gate, especially the aluminum line. Houston humidity causes the wood or composite to swell, the gate binds, and someone leans on it until the hinge bracket bends.
- Top rail separating from pickets. Sterling’s Classic line uses a pressed-in fastener. After enough Houston heat cycles, the fastener works loose and the rail starts to gap. You can push it back, but it won’t stay without new hardware.
- Rust staining at bracket points. On the aluminum line, steel brackets in contact with aluminum in a humid environment will galvanically corrode. That white or rust-colored powder at the bracket is the first sign.
- Panels sagging in the middle. This is almost always a rotted or cracked bottom rail on a wood-fence panel. Termites love it, Houston moisture feeds it, and once the rail goes, the whole panel follows within a season.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Sterling fence installation in Houston, most jobs land between $3,500 and $9,000. The spread comes down to three things: linear footage (most Houston backyards run 120 to 200 feet of fenceline), whether we’re reusing existing posts or setting new ones, and panel style. A basic 50-foot run of Classic panels with existing posts in good shape runs the low end. A full 200-foot Estate install with new posts, gate rebuild, and hardware runs the high end.
Every quote is a written, line-item price before any work starts. That price includes panels or repair parts, hardware, posts and concrete if needed, tear-out and haul-away of the old material, and a final walk with you. No numbers move at the door. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fence fails inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?
If a single picket has come loose, you can nail or screw it back and get a few more months. That’s not the permanent fix, and we’ll tell you that straight. What you shouldn’t try yourself: pulling and resetting a post in Houston clay, hanging a gate on a compromised hinge post, or anything on the aluminum line where the brackets have corroded. A post that leans takes the panel with it, and a gate that falls can take a fence section down or hurt someone standing in the wrong place.
The honest money is in getting the match right the first time. We stock the common Sterling panels, brackets, and gate hardware on the truck. If we don’t have your exact part, we order it and schedule the install when it’s in hand, not before. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll look at what you have, tell you what it needs, and give you a written number.
How Much Does Sterling Fence Installation Cost in Houston?
Most Sterling fence installations in Houston run $3,500 to $9,000 installed. The final number depends on how many linear feet you have, whether we can reuse your existing posts, and which Sterling line you’re matching. We give that number in writing before any work starts, and it doesn’t change at the door. Call (940) 289-7658 for a free, written estimate on your fence.

AfterCan You Match Sterling Parts for a Fence Installed Before 2019?
Yes. Pre-2019 Sterling Classic posts are a lighter gauge than current production, and the bracket spacing is slightly different. We match your existing panels and posts by series and age, not by assumption. If we’re reusing your old posts, we’ll spec the hardware that actually fits them. If we’re replacing posts, we’ll set new ones that take current panels cleanly. Either way, you get a fence that lines up and stays put.
Is It Better to Repair or Replace a Sterling Fence in Houston?
If the rails and posts are sound and you have one or two bad panels, repair makes sense and runs far less than a full install. If the posts are leaning, the rails are rotted, or you’re chasing one failure after another, replacement is the cheaper option over two years. Houston’s climate punishes half-measures. We’ll tell you which path your fence is on before we quote either one.
How Long Does Sterling Fence Installation Take?
Most panel replacements and post resets take one day on site. A full fence replacement, including old fence tear-out, new posts, panels, and gates, runs two to three days for a typical Houston backyard. If we need to order a specific Sterling part that’s not on the truck, we’ll tell you up front and schedule the install for when the part is in hand.
Do You Stock Sterling Fence Parts in Houston?
We keep the most common Sterling Classic and Estate panels, brackets, and gate hardware on our trucks in Houston. Discontinued aluminum trim pieces and some specialty Estate components get ordered from our supplier. We’ll never schedule your install until the correct part is physically on hand. Call (940) 289-7658 and tell us what you’re looking at. We’ll let you know in the same conversation what we have and what we need to order.
FAQs
How long does a Sterling fence last in Houston? A properly installed Sterling wood or composite fence lasts 15 to 20 years in Houston, but the hardware and posts will likely need attention before the panels do. The big killers here are soil movement, termites in the wood line, and galvanic corrosion at bracket points on the aluminum line. Regular inspection catches these early.
Can a leaning Sterling fence post be fixed without replacing the panel? Yes, if the panel itself is sound. We pull the post, set a new one below the frost line in concrete, and re-hang the existing panel. If the panel has taken stress damage from the lean, you’ll see cracks at the rail joints, and that panel needs to go too.
Do you pull permits for fence replacement in Houston? Most fence replacements in Houston city limits need a permit, and we handle that as part of the job. Houston’s building code covers fence height, setback from property lines, and post depth. We know the local requirements and we pull the permit before any work starts.
Will my Sterling fence match if you’re only replacing part of it? New panels won’t match weather-aged panels perfectly, no matter who installs them. We’ll match the series, size, and profile exactly, but plan on a difference in color for the first year until the new material weathers. We’ll point out which sections will show the difference before you sign anything.
What if the fence fails after you leave? The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers it. If any part of the fence we installed fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is in writing, in your hand, when the job closes. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll make it right.
