IKO Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
IKO kitchen remodeling in Houston typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet footprint, counter surface, and whether we’re reworking plumbing or electrical rough-in. If you’re holding a failed IKO component, whether it’s delaminated cabinet carcasses, a sink base that’s swelled past saving, or counter substrate that has gone soft from years of Houston humidity, we can match, price, and install a proper replacement, usually within a week of our first look. Most owners find the failure the same way: a drawer starts dragging, a door won’t square up, or the cabinet box under the sink smells musty and the bottom panel gives when you press on it.
You should know up front: Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with IKO. What we are is a Houston kitchen contractor that has pulled failed IKO components out of enough homes to know exactly how they fail, what’s worth saving, and what needs to go.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO entered the kitchen space through cabinet lines more than full appliance suites, so when a Houston homeowner says “IKO kitchen,” they’re almost always talking about the cabinet boxes, door faces, or hardware systems. The compatibility gotcha we see most often is this: IKO cabinet boxes were built in both 32mm Euro-style and 1½-inch overlay face-frame configurations, and the hinge plates and drawer slides do not interchange between the two. If you order a replacement door for a 32mm box but your cabinets are face-frame, the door will hang wrong and never seat against the box properly.
To identify what you have, look at the hinge cup cutout on the back of an existing door. A 35mm cup drilled 22mm from the door edge tells you Euro-style. A flat metal hinge screwed to the face of the cabinet frame tells you overlay face-frame. Either way, measure the exact door width and height to the sixteenth. The aftermarket options for IKO are solid on the door side but thin on the box side. There are reputable aftermarket door makers who can match the profile, but when a cabinet box itself has failed, we almost always recommend replacing that box with a KraftMaid or Wellborn unit rather than trying to rebuild an IKO carcass. And for newer IKO lines, OEM replacement doors are still available through their distribution channels. Curtis Lane has been running Houston kitchen crews for over a decade, and his rule is simple: if the box is square and dry, we save it. If it’s not, we don’t pretend.

Signs Your IKO Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Sink base cabinet bottom is soft, dark, or sagging. This tells you the substrate under the sink has absorbed moisture over time. Houston humidity plus a slow drain leak will do it. The cabinet may look fine from the outside while the bottom rots from the inside.
- Doors and drawer fronts won’t hold adjustment. IKO hinges on older lines used a plastic clip that gets brittle after six or seven years of Houston heat cycling. Once the clip cracks, no amount of adjustment screw work will keep the door square.
- Drawer slides grind or bind on one side only. Usually the ball bearings in the slide have worn unevenly, often because the drawer face has absorbed moisture and pulled the front out of square. Fixing the slide won’t fix the frame.
- Cabinet boxes are pulling away from the wall at the top. This almost always means the original installer cheated on the hang rail fastening or missed a stud. In Houston houses with shifting clay soil, a poorly anchored cabinet will separate over time.
- Melamine or veneer is peeling at the edges of doors near heat sources. IKO doors on older lines used paper-thin edge banding that lifts once the oven or dishwasher has cycled hot air against it for a few years. The door core then wicks moisture and swells.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For IKO-specific kitchen work in Houston, the numbers break down like this:
- Full IKO kitchen remodel: $14,000 – $45,000
- Smaller kitchen or partial cabinet replacement: $9,000 – $20,000
- Cabinet installation only (replacement boxes, doors, hardware): $4,000 – $13,000
- Countertop replacement over failed substrate: $2,000 – $6,500
- Island rebuild or replacement: $3,000 – $10,000
The range is wide because a 12-foot galley kitchen with laminate counters is a different job than a 20-foot island kitchen with stone. What we write in the estimate is what you pay. No number moves at the door. Every IKO replacement we install carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. If the counter substrate or cabinet box was the failure point, we tell you before we order parts, not after demo day.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely handle a few checks yourself before calling. Pop a drawer out and look at the slide. Check under the sink for darkening or swelling. Measure your door widths and hinge cup hole distances. Those steps take ten minutes and they tell us a lot about what we’re quoting. What you should not do is attempt to remove a failed cabinet box that’s still anchored to the wall, especially an upper cabinet. A 36-inch upper loaded with dishes weighs more than you expect, and when it lets go of the hang rail, it comes down fast and takes whatever’s under it with it. Same goes for supporting a stone counter while pulling cabinets underneath. That’s a two-person job with correct bracing, not a weekend project. If the cabinet is the problem, call (940) 289-7658 and let Curtis Lane’s crew handle the extraction. If it’s a door or a slide, we’ll give you a straight answer either way.
FAQs

IKO cabinet boxes and doors typically last 12 to 18 years in Houston homes, with the hinge clips and edge banding usually failing first due to heat and humidity cycling. A properly ventilated kitchen and a dry sink base can push the boxes past 20 years. Call (940) 289-7658 for an honest assessment.
Yes, if the cabinet box is still square and dry, doors and drawer fronts can be matched or the hardware swapped out. If the box has swelled, rotted, or pulled from the wall, repair becomes a losing bet. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll tell you which one you’ve got.
A full kitchen remodel runs three to six weeks depending on counter fabrication and plumbing or electrical rework. A cabinet or door-only replacement can often be done in one to three days once parts arrive. Call (940) 289-7658 for a scope and schedule.
We keep common IKO-compatible hinges, slides, and door bumpers on our trucks, and we source OEM doors and boxes through the same channels we use for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone work. If it’s on the shelf in Houston, we’ll have it first. Call (940) 289-7658 and tell us what you need.
Straight scope, straight number, that’s the whole conversation. If you have an IKO kitchen component that has failed, call Bradford Remodeling Co Houston at (940) 289-7658 for a free estimate. A live person answers, not a voicemail, and you’ll get a written price before any work starts.
