Atlas Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide

If you own a home in Houston with an Atlas kitchen that’s starting to show its age, this page tells you what a full remodel costs, what fails first, and how we handle the rebuild. A complete Atlas kitchen remodel in Houston typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet count, countertop material, and whether you’re moving plumbing or electrical. Most owners call us after living with the kitchen for 10 to 15 years: doors start sagging, drawer slides bind, the laminate pulls away at the sink, and suddenly the whole room feels tired at the same time.

We’re Bradford Remodeling Co Houston, and we’re an independent remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with Atlas, but we’ve rebuilt and reconfigured enough Atlas kitchens across Houston to know exactly what holds up, what doesn’t, and what it costs to make it right.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Atlas built kitchen lines under several series names over the years, and the compatibility question comes down to how the cabinetry was framed. The older Atlas lines, typically installed in Houston homes from the late 1990s through the mid-2010s, used face-frame construction with 3/4-inch hardwood frames and particleboard or MDF panel sides. Newer Atlas-style boxes, particularly the ones showing up in spec builds from 2015 forward, moved toward frameless full-access construction with 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch cabinet-grade plywood.

Here’s the gotcha most homeowners don’t know: you can’t reliably mix face-frame and frameless components in the same run of cabinets. The door reveals, hinge plates, and drawer hardware are dimensionally different. If you’re trying to salvage half the kitchen and replace the rest, we’ll tell you plainly whether it will look right or fight you. Often the smarter move is a full tear-out, which is why our pricing reflects complete gut-and-rebuild work rather than piecemeal swaps.

For counters, the Atlas-era sinks were typically top-mount or tile-in, which means the substrate underneath usually needs attention once the old top comes off. In Houston, the humidity works on particleboard sub-decks relentlessly. By the time a laminate counter delaminates at the seam, the substrate underneath is usually swollen past saving.

We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for replacement components when a full Atlas rebuild isn’t the right call.

Signs Your Atlas Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer slides sound like gravel. The original side-mount slides wear out, and once the nylon rollers flatten, you’re dragging metal on metal. Lubricating them buys a few weeks, not a season.
  • Cabinet doors won’t stay closed or aligned. Houston’s humidity cycle, wet summers and dry winters, swells and shrinks the frames. Hinges list to one side, and the reveals go uneven across the run.
  • Counter seam is dark or lifting near the sink. Water gets under the laminate or solid surface at the seam, and that tells you the substrate has been wet for a while. It’s not a re-glue fix.
  • The toe-kick area is soft or discolored. This is classic wicking from a slow dishwasher or sink leak. By the time you see it on the face, the cabinet base underneath is breaking down.
  • Doors and drawers stick after a storm front. Swelling from humidity is one thing, but if the problem comes and goes with the weather, the frames have lost their structural stiffness. That’s not a hardware problem anymore.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

For a full Atlas kitchen remodel in Houston, our written price falls between $14,000 and $45,000. A smaller L-shaped or galley kitchen with stock cabinets and laminate counters can come in at the lower end. A larger open-plan kitchen with custom or semi-custom boxes, stone tops, and electrical or plumbing changes lands higher. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Cabinet installation: $4,000 to $13,000
  • Countertop installation: $2,000 to $6,500
  • Backsplash installation: $800 to $2,500
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,000 to $10,000

Every price is written down before we start, and it doesn’t move at the door. You get a line-item scope that shows exactly what’s being removed, what’s going in, and what it costs. No allowances that get burned through, no change orders unless you ask for a change. At close-out, you get the signed written guarantee in your hand, and the site is clean enough to cook in that night.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely assess a lot on your own: check for soft toe-kicks, look at the counter seams under a flashlight, and open every drawer to see which slides are shot. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling cabinets and counters apart yourself. The second you remove a countertop, you’re into the substrate, and if the underlying deck is compromised, you need to know how to rebuild it before setting a new top. We’ve walked into Houston kitchens where a well-meaning homeowner pulled the old top, found rot, and then had a half-demolished kitchen for three months trying to figure out the next step.

If you want a straight read on whether your Atlas kitchen needs a partial fix or a full rebuild, call us at (940) 289-7658. We’ll come out, look at it, and give you a written number. Straight scope, straight number – that’s the whole conversation.
