Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Bufftech-compatible driveway and paver systems in Houston, with typical installed pricing running $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, substrate condition, and whether we’re matching existing borders or running a full new layout. Most homeowners discover they need us the same way: a paver has shifted, a corner has chipped, or water is pooling where it didn’t pool last spring. The failure usually isn’t the paver itself. It’s what’s underneath it.
Bufftech makes a solid paver, no argument. But Houston’s clay soil expands and contracts through our wet-dry cycles, and that movement works on every joint in the system. Curtis Lane has run crews on Bufftech driveways from Montrose to Katy, and the pattern is consistent: edge restraint fails first, then the bedding course, then the pavers start telegraphing the problem to the surface. The fix isn’t swapping one paver. It’s correcting what let that paver move.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech runs several paver lines that show up regularly in Houston driveways. The Holland Stone series is the workhorse here, a rectangular paver that interlocks well under vehicle load. The Coventry Cobble and Dublin Cobble lines are the tumbled-edge versions where you’ll see more variation in surface texture and color blend. The Brussels Block line crops up on higher-end jobs, with a heavier face and tighter joint.
The compatibility gotcha is this: Bufftech has shifted paver thickness standards over the years. Older Houston installations often used 60mm (2-3/8″) pavers for driveways. Newer driveway-rated runs spec 80mm (3-1/8″). You cannot mix a 60mm replacement into an 80mm field and expect it to sit right, and the reverse leaves a trip edge. Before we quote anything, one of our technicians measures the existing paver thickness and checks the back of the unit for the mold mark. That mark tells us the series and the plant date, and it settles the OEM-versus-aftermarket question before a dollar gets discussed.
For the record: Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Bufftech, and we don’t claim to be. We do know their product lines well enough to match what you have or tell you honestly when a full replacement beats a patch job.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- A paver sinks in the wheel path. This is almost always a bedding sand issue or a weak spot in the base. Houston’s clay subgrade loses bearing capacity when it gets saturated, and the paver follows the water. One low paver is a warning; a row of them is a repair.
- Edge pavers shift outward, leaving a widening gap at the border. Edge restraint is the first thing to fail on most Houston Bufftech driveways. Without solid restraint, the whole field slowly walks toward the lawn. We see this on driveways less than five years old.
- Joint sand washes out after every hard rain. Houston storms move sand quickly once the polymeric binder breaks down. If you see bare joints after a downpour, water is now getting under the pavers, which accelerates everything else.
- Surface chipping or scaling on individual pavers. Bufftech pavers hold up well, but repeated vehicle point loads plus Houston’s occasional freeze-thaw can spall the top face. It’s cosmetic at first, but once the face degrades, the paver absorbs more water and failure picks up speed.
- Standing water that used to drain. Driveways don’t go out of slope on their own. Pooling means the substrate has shifted somewhere upstream, and the water is going where the grade tells it. That water is under your pavers next.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Bufftech driveway and paver work in Houston runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed. That range reflects what’s actually under your pavers. If we’re pulling up an existing Bufftech field with a failed base, expect excavation, a new compacted base, fresh bedding sand, the pavers themselves, edge restraint, and joint sand. If it’s a repair rather than a replacement, we quote the patch honestly and tell you what it won’t fix long-term.
Every scope gets a written price before any work starts. No numbers that move at the door. That written quote itemizes materials, labor, haul-off if needed, and the specific Bufftech-compatible product we’re installing. The completed job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails inside a year, we return and correct it at no charge. A paver that sinks in month six is our problem, not yours.

You can safely inspect a few things yourself. Look at the edges of the driveway and note where the border has pulled away. Take a photo of the mold mark on the back of any loose paver. Check whether joints are full or empty after the next rain. Those observations help you understand whether you’re looking at a cosmetic fix or a base problem.
What you shouldn’t do is pull pavers and re-set them yourself on a driveway that carries vehicle weight. A paver that’s set wrong becomes a missile under a tire, and a base that isn’t compacted in lifts will sink again in one Houston wet season. The part that fails is rarely the paver. It’s the prep. We’d rather give you a straight scope and a straight number than watch you re-do the same patch twice. Straight scope, straight number, that’s the whole conversation. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll tell you what you’re working with.
FAQs

A properly installed Bufftech driveway in Houston should give you 20 to 30 years on the paver itself, with the base holding up as long as water is kept out of it. The pavers rarely fail first. When driveways fail at year 8 or 10, it’s the base or edge restraint giving out under Houston’s clay movement. Call (940) 289-7658 if you’re seeing movement after rain; we’ll tell you if it’s base or just joint maintenance. Estimates are free.
Yes, if the failure is localized. A sunken section, a broken edge, or a washed-out joint can often be re-set and re-compacted without tearing out the whole driveway. If the base has failed across the field, patches buy time but don’t fix the problem. We’ll give you the honest version either way. Call (940) 289-7658 for a written evaluation.
A localized repair with a sound base is usually one to two days on site. A full driveway replacement with excavation and new base typically runs three to five working days, weather permitting. Houston rain can stretch that, and we’ll tell you up front what the schedule looks like. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll give you a timeline with the quote.
We stock common Bufftech-compatible Holland Stone and Coventry Cobble pavers for same-week repairs, and we source exact-match units through our documented material roster when the existing field requires it. Matching color blend on a driveway that’s weathered five Texas summers takes a careful eye, which is exactly why we check the mold mark and color code before ordering. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll let you know what we can pull from stock.
