ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install ActiveYards-compatible driveway and paver components throughout Houston, with most paver driveway work running $7,000 to $18,000 installed depending on square footage, base prep, and drainage. The typical call we get starts with a homeowner noticing a section of pavers settling, shifting, or separating months after a heavy Houston rain. ActiveYards pavers are modular, which means a failed section rarely requires tearing out the whole driveway – but it does require matching the exact paver profile and color lot if you want the repair to disappear.
What most people don’t realize until they’re standing in the driveway is that the paver itself is almost never the root problem. The base underneath fails first, and the pavers just tell you about it. In Houston’s clay-heavy soil, that base gets tested every time we get a week of rain followed by a dry stretch. The ground swells, then shrinks, and any shortcut in the base prep shows up as a sunken spot or a lip you can catch a toe on.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards doesn’t make a single paver line – they offer a range of profiles under different series names that change depending on color, texture, and dimensional spec. The two things that matter most when replacing or adding to an existing ActiveYards installation are the paver profile number and the color lot code, both of which are printed on the side of the original packaging or available from the original installer’s paperwork. If you don’t have that paperwork, we can usually identify the profile by measuring the paver and comparing it against ActiveYards’ current catalog – but color matching without a lot code means ordering samples and accepting that a perfect match may require blending.
ActiveYards pavers are designed for modular layout patterns, which is good news for repair work. You can pull a damaged section and reset it without buying a full pallet, as long as the profile is still in production. Some older ActiveYards profiles have been discontinued in Texas since the brand changed distributors in the region around 2019. If you have a discontinued profile, we’ll tell you straight: we can source a close equivalent, or we can reset what you have and extend the life of the existing material. We don’t push a full replacement when a repair will hold.
One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: ActiveYards residential pavers come in different thicknesses depending on the application. A 60mm paver is fine for a residential driveway in most Houston suburbs, but if the original install used 80mm pavers for heavier traffic or a steeper grade, swapping in a thinner paver will fail prematurely. We check thickness before we order anything.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or low spots that hold water after rain. This is base failure, not paver failure. The pavers are intact, but the material underneath has shifted or washed out, usually at a low point where drainage collects.
- Pavers tilting or rocking when you step on them. The sand joint has failed and the paver is no longer locked against its neighbors. Left alone, the edges start to chip and the problem spreads.
- Gaps opening between pavers wider than a quarter inch. This usually means the edge restraint failed somewhere along the border, allowing the field to drift outward. In Houston, this often happens at the garage apron where tires push against the same edge every day.
- Weeds or grass pushing up through the joints. The joint sand has washed out enough for organic material to root. It looks cosmetic, but it means water is getting under the pavers.
- Efflorescence – a white chalky film – that appears and won’t scrub off. This is mineral content migrating through the paver, common in Houston because of our water chemistry. It doesn’t mean the paver is structurally failing, but it does signal that moisture is moving through the system more than it should.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a paver driveway installation in Houston, the realistic range is $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, access, base depth, and whether we’re removing an existing surface. Resetting or repairing a section of an existing ActiveYards driveway runs lower, but until we see the base condition we won’t put a number on it. What drives the range: base prep is the expensive part. The pavers themselves are typically $4 to $8 per square foot, but excavation, compacted base material, geotextile fabric, and edge restraint are what make the installation last.
Every price we give is written, line-itemed, and fixed before work starts. No numbers that move at the door, no change orders when the crew finds something. If the scope changes, we write a new price and get your signature before we touch it. That’s The Garrison Standard – the framework every Bradford Remodeling job runs on. And when we finish, you get the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the work fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

Replacing a single paver or resetting a small section is doable for a homeowner who’s comfortable with a rubber mallet and a level, as long as the base underneath is still solid. What you shouldn’t do is try to fix a failing base yourself. Once you’re digging out and re-compacting a base layer in Houston clay, you need the right material spec and compaction equipment, or the repair fails within a season. We’ve also seen homeowners crack a good paver trying to pry it out with a flat shovel instead of using a paver extractor or breaking it out from the joint side.
If the base is sound and you just have one or two damaged pavers, we’re happy to sell you matching replacements from our stock or order them direct. If the base is failing, call us at (940) 289-7658 and we’ll assess it honestly. Straight scope, straight number – that’s the whole conversation.
FAQs

An ActiveYards paver driveway with a properly installed base should last 25 to 30 years in Houston before the pavers themselves show meaningful wear, though the joint sand will need periodic refreshing every 3 to 5 years as our rains wash it through. The base is the determining factor – most failures we see are base failures, not paver failures, and they show up in the first 5 to 7 years if the original install cut corners. Call (940) 289-7658 if you’re seeing settling and want an honest read before it spreads.
Yes – if the paver is cracked but the base is intact, we can pull the damaged unit and reset a new one in under an hour, which is far cheaper than replacing a section. The repair only makes sense if the cause of the crack is understood; a cracked paver over failing base will just crack again. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in before any work is scheduled.
A single-paver swap takes under an hour once the matching paver is on site; a section reset with base repair typically runs one to two days depending on access and how much base material needs to be removed and recompacted. We’ll give you a written timeline with the written price so you know exactly what to expect. Call (940) 289-7658 for a free estimate and a straight answer on timing.
We keep common ActiveYards profiles on our Houston truck and can source the full current catalog through our supplier network – we also stock materials from Belgard and Unilock for situations where an ActiveYards profile has been discontinued and a documented equivalent makes more sense. If we don’t have your exact profile on hand, we’ll have it ordered and give you the lead time before you commit to anything. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll verify what we can match.
