Tremron Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide

Tremron fence installation across a typical Houston backyard runs $3,500 to $9,000 fully installed, depending on linear footage, gate hardware, and whether we’re tearing out an old fence or working with fresh posts. We stock Tremron-compatible pavers and retaining blocks on our Houston trucks, and most fence jobs go from first measurement to final walkthrough inside a week. The way most owners find us is simple: a fence panel sags after a storm, a gate post leans out of plumb, or the original installer cut a corner on the base course and the whole run started drifting within two years.

Here’s the thing about Tremron products in Houston: they’re built for Florida and Gulf Coast weather, which means they handle our humidity and clay soil better than a lot of generic alternatives. But the paver or block is only as good as the installation underneath it. We’ve been called out to enough failed fence jobs in Montrose, Katy, and Sugar Land to know that most problems trace back to the base, not the block itself.

Which Tremron Models This Applies To

Tremron manufactures several product lines that work for Houston fence applications, and the compatibility question matters more than most homeowners expect. The main players are the Tremron Estate Wall block, the Jacksonville Stone series, and their split-face retaining blocks, all of which carry different face dimensions and setback angles. A fence built on Estate Wall blocks won’t match a repair using Jacksonville Stone without a visible seam, so we always pull a sample or match the manufacturer stamp before quoting.

Identifying your existing block is straightforward: flip one over and look for the Tremron stamp on the underside, or measure the face height. Most Tremron fence blocks run 4 to 6 inches in face height, with a lip or setback channel that locks each course into the one below it. We carry both OEM Tremron stock and quality aftermarket equivalents for the common sizes, but the OEM block holds its color better over Houston’s UV exposure. That matters on a fence you’ll look at every day for 15 years.

One compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Houston homeowners: Tremron’s color blends are region-specific. The Sierra blend sold here isn’t the same mix as the Sierra blend sold in Florida, and if you patch a section with blocks from a different plant, you’ll see the color shift within a season. We source our Tremron material through Texas distributors specifically to avoid that mismatch.

Signs Your Tremron Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Leaning gate post or end column. This is almost always a base failure, not a block failure. Houston’s expansive clay soil heaves with every wet season, and a post set without a proper gravel base or concrete collar will start tilting within two to three years. The fix usually means pulling the post, re-compacting the base, and resetting it in a Sonotube with proper drainage.
  • Horizontal cracks running along a mortar line or between courses. On a Tremron fence with a concrete cap, this signals water intrusion that has frozen and thawed, or soil movement that has transferred stress into the wall. Left alone, the crack widens and the section eventually separates.
  • Blocks shifting out of alignment at the top of the wall. This happens when the cap or top course isn’t secured and wind or settling knocks it loose. In Houston, we see this a lot on older fences where the adhesive bonding the cap has just given up.
  • Eroded or visible base material at the bottom of the fence. If you can see gravel or sand spilling out from under the first course, the structural base is washing out with every rain. That fence is now supported by dirt, not by an engineered base.
  • Gates that scrape or won’t latch. A gate that drags means the post has moved, plain and simple. The gate itself is rarely the problem; the post it hangs from is.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Tremron fence installation in Houston, plan on $3,500 to $9,000. That range covers most residential jobs from about 50 to 100 linear feet with a single gate. The variables are linear footage, the height of the fence, whether we’re removing and hauling an old fence, the type of gate hardware you choose, and whether the soil conditions require deeper excavation or additional base material. Houston’s gumbo clay means we often compact and build up the sub-base more than a crew would in the Hill Country, and that preparation work is included in our written price.

Every quote includes the blocks or pavers, base aggregate, geotextile fabric where needed, mortar or adhesive, gate hardware, labor, and haul-off of the old fence if applicable. There is no line item that appears later as a “soil surcharge” or “unexpected material fee.” Under The Garrison Standard, our written price is the price. If the scope doesn’t change, the number doesn’t change.

And the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If your fence shifts, cracks, or fails within a year of installation, we come back and make it right at no charge. That promise is in writing, and you get a signed copy at job close.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the straight answer: you can inspect a failing Tremron fence, but you shouldn’t rebuild one without experience. Walking the line to check for leaning posts, looking at the base to see if it’s eroding, and checking gate hardware for sag are all things an owner can do in 20 minutes. If what you find is a loose cap block, that’s a repair you might handle with construction adhesive and a level, provided the wall underneath is sound.

What goes wrong with DIY on this kind of job is the base. A proper fence installation in Houston starts 8 to 12 inches below grade with compacted aggregate and, in many cases, a concrete footer. Most DIY attempts skip that step entirely because digging in Houston clay is miserable work. The fence looks fine for a year or two, then Houston’s next wet season pushes it out of plumb and you’re paying us to tear it out and start over. If your fence has moved more than a quarter inch, or you’re seeing vertical cracks, call us at (940) 289-7658 and let Curtis Lane put eyes on it before you spend a weekend fighting the soil.
