Cover Windows & Doors: The Houston Owner's Guide
We stock and install Cover-compatible windows and doors across Houston, with most replacements running $450 to $1,800 for parts and labor depending on the unit. We carry common Cover hardware, rollers, hinges, and seals on our trucks, so a tech can usually swap a failed component the same day they arrive. Most homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a door that suddenly drags across the threshold, a window that drops two inches when the lock disengages, or a seal that’s letting Houston humidity pour through the frame.
Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Cover, but we’ve worked on enough of their units in this market to know exactly what fails on them and what fixes it properly.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s current lineup spans a few distinct series, and the parts are not always interchangeable between them. The most common units we service in Houston are the Cover 2.0 and 3.0 slider windows, the Cover bi-fold and stackable patio doors, and the Cover pivot entry door. Each series uses different roller assemblies, track profiles, and weatherstripping channels. Before ordering any part, check the label on the interior frame or the edge of the panel. It’ll give you the series number and usually a manufacture date. If the label is gone, measure the panel thickness and the roller housing width. Cover runs several panel thicknesses across their line, and a roller meant for a 1-3/8" panel will not seat correctly in a 1-3/4" frame.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Cover’s factory hardware is decent, but their roller bearings were never rated for Houston’s salt air and humidity swings. Aftermarket stainless-sealed rollers, when matched to the correct housing dimensions, typically outlast the factory units by three to four years in our market. For weatherstripping, we stick with Cover’s OEM extrusion profiles because the aftermarket versions are often milled slightly undersized, which defeats the entire point in a climate where the air is wet nine months a year. We also stock compatible hardware for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone lines, but the fitment standards for those categories differ, so we verify measurements before quoting.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Panel drags or sticks at one end of the track. This is almost always a flattened roller bearing or debris built up in the track. If it’s the roller, the wheel won’t spin freely when you lift the panel slightly. Houston dust and humidity accelerate this wear.
- Window drops when you release the lock or lift handle. That’s a failed balance assembly or a worn sash guide. Cover uses a spring-loaded balance cartridge in most sliders. When it goes, the panel loses its hold and drops hard, which can crack the frame if ignored.
- Condensation between the glass panes. The seal has failed and the argon or krypton fill is gone. Once that seal goes, the glass is no longer insulating. This is repairable with a new insulated glass unit matched to the original dimensions.
- You can see daylight or feel air movement around the panel edges. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. In Houston, this is less about comfort and more about moisture. A leaky seal lets humid air hit the interior frame, and you’ll get warping or mildew if it sits.
- Door panel sags at the top hinge corner. On Cover pivot doors, this usually means the hinge pin or bushing is worn. It’s a small fix if caught early. If the door has been slamming on a dropped corner for months, the frame can be out of square too.

DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things an owner can safely check: debris in the track, loose mounting screws, visible torn weatherstripping. Cleaning out a track with a stiff brush and compressed air can fix a sticking panel when the roller itself is fine. But anything involving the balance cartridge or the roller housing needs a skilled hand. Those assemblies are under spring tension on most Cover units, and the cartridge sits inside the frame channel. If you pry it wrong, the panel can drop suddenly. We’ve repaired more than a few frames in Houston where a well-intentioned DIY attempt warped the track or cracked the sash corner. That turns a $150 roller job into a $900 panel replacement.

FAQs

In Houston’s climate, expect 12 to 18 years from the frame and 5 to 10 years from the moving hardware before you’re replacing rollers, balances, or seals. Humidity and salt air cut into the factory hardware faster than the frame itself. Call (940) 289-7658 for an exact quote on your unit.
Most failures are repairable at the component level. Rollers, balances, weatherstripping, hinges, and insulated glass units can all be swapped without replacing the frame. The frame gets replaced when it’s warped, rotted, or out of square beyond adjustment. We’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with before any work is quoted.
A roller, balance, or weatherstripping swap usually takes 45 to 90 minutes on site. An insulated glass unit replacement may require a return visit once the glass is fabricated, typically within a week. Most single-component repairs are done in one visit.
We stock common Cover rollers, balances, hinges, and OEM weatherstripping profiles on our Houston trucks. Specialized glass units or uncommon panel sizes are ordered to spec and usually arrive within five to seven business days. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll confirm what’s on the truck for your model before scheduling.
