Tuff Shed Windows & Doors: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Replacing a Tuff Shed window or door in Houston typically runs $180 to $640 installed, depending on whether you’re swapping a single window, a set of double doors, or something in between. We stock Tuff Shed-compatible windows and doors at Bradford Remodeling Co Houston, and most replacements are done in under three hours once we’re on site. The parts fail in predictable ways here: Houston humidity swells the wood trim until the door binds, sun bakes the vinyl glazing until it cracks, and ground-level moisture rots the bottom rail on doors set close to grade. If your shed window is fogged between the panes, if the door won’t latch without a hard shove, or if the frame is soft to the touch at the bottom corners, that’s the failure pattern we see most. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll match the part, give you a written price, and get it swapped.
Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Tuff Shed. That’s not a drawback. It means we stock our truck with OEM-identical and quality aftermarket parts that fit Tuff Shed openings, and we’re not obligated to sell you only what one manufacturer’s catalog says. You get the right fit at an honest price.
Which Tuff Shed Models This Applies To

Tuff Shed has used the same basic window and door rough openings across its Premier Series, Pro Series, and Ranch Series for most of the last 15 years, but there are compatibility gotchas you need to know before ordering a replacement.
The biggest one: door rough openings changed on Pro Series builds after 2018. Older Pro Series sheds used a 64-inch rough opening for double doors; newer builds use a 68-inch opening. Measure the actual rough opening, not the door slab. If you order a door based on the slab width alone, you’ll be off by up to four inches when you try to hang it. This is the single most common mistake we correct for Houston owners who bought a door online first.
Windows are more forgiving, but not completely. Tuff Shed uses a 36×27-inch vinyl window as its standard horizontal unit, and a 30×36-inch vertical window on larger models. The exterior trim ring hides roughly an inch of play, so a window that measures within that tolerance will fit. But the screw pattern differs between the Premier and Ranch Series: Premier windows are screwed through the frame into the wall studs, while Ranch windows use a nailing fin behind the trim. It’s a 20-minute difference for our crew, but it’s the difference between a clean install and a drafty one if you guess.
As for OEM versus aftermarket: for most Houston owners, a quality aftermarket vinyl window with Low-E glass is the better buy than the OEM unit. The OEM window on many Tuff Shed builds is single-pane. Replacing it with a double-pane Low-E unit cuts afternoon heat gain inside the shed by a noticeable amount during a Texas summer. For doors, we generally recommend OEM-matched wood doors on Premier Series sheds, because the trim and hardware are built to those specs, and a mismatched aftermarket door shows. For Pro and Ranch Series, a painted fiberglass aftermarket door will outlast the OEM wood door in Houston humidity by years, and we can match the original color well enough that you won’t see the difference from ten feet.
How to Identify Your Part
There’s no model number stamped on most Tuff Shed windows. What you have is a label on the door hinge or the window sash, and a set of measurements. Take three: the rough opening width, the rough opening height, and the wall thickness. Tuff Shed walls are typically 2×4 or 2×6 construction with a T1-11 or SmartSide exterior, so the wall thickness tells you what jamb depth you need. Write all three down before you call. A photo of the existing part and the label helps, but the measurements are what we need to quote you accurately.

Signs Your Tuff Shed Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Fog between the glass panes. The factory seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. Houston’s humidity drives moisture into the gap, and once it’s in there, it won’t clear. The window still functions, but you’ve lost the insulating value, and it looks bad. Replacement is the only real fix.
- Door binds at the bottom or won’t latch without force. The door frame has swelled from ground moisture, or the threshold has shifted because the shed settled. Houston’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with every rain cycle, and sheds on pier foundations move more than people expect. A door that bound in May after a wet spring will often swing fine by August. That doesn’t mean it’s fixed; it means the frame is flexing.
- Soft or spongy wood at the bottom corners of the door frame. This is rot, plain and simple. It starts where water splashes up from the ground or where the original caulk failed along the threshold. If you can press a screwdriver tip into the wood without much effort, the frame is compromised and needs replacement, not patching.
- Cracked or cloudy vinyl glazing on the window sash. Years of direct Houston sun degrade the PVC. It becomes brittle, then cracks, then the sash loses its seal against the frame. You’ll notice drafts or see daylight through a gap. The sash can sometimes be salvaged, but if the cracking is extensive, a full window swap is cheaper than piecemeal repairs.
- Door slab sagging, visible gap at the top hinge side. The hinges have pulled or the door itself has warped. Houston’s humidity swings do this to wood doors on uninsulated sheds faster than anywhere else we work. The fix is usually hinge replacement, but if the slab is warped beyond what the hinges can hold, you need a new door.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge in Houston for Tuff Shed-compatible window and door work, installed with written pricing before we start:
- Standard vinyl window replacement (36×27 or 30×36): $180 – $340 installed
- Upgraded double-pane Low-E window replacement: $280 – $460 installed
- Single door replacement (36-inch wood or fiberglass): $320 – $520 installed
- Double door replacement (64-inch or 68-inch opening): $480 – $640 installed
- Frame repair or threshold replacement (no door swap): $90 – $220 installed
The range depends on three things: which part needs replacing, whether the surrounding frame is sound or needs repair, and which material you choose. A basic vinyl window on a Ranch Series shed with an intact frame sits at the low end. A double door with a rotted threshold and a warped frame sits at the high end, because we’re not just hanging a door; we’re rebuilding the opening so the new door actually closes and seals.
Every quote includes parts, labor, hardware, caulk, trim, and haul-away of the old part. No line-item surprises, no “we found something else” phone call. That’s the Garrison Standard: a written price before any work starts, every time. If the number changes, it changes on paper first, with your signature, or it doesn’t change at all.
And every installation is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the door binds, the window leaks, or the work fails within a year of completion, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s in writing before we touch the shed.

Some of this work an owner can do safely. Checking hinge screws for tightness, clearing debris from the threshold track, and re-caulking a window’s exterior trim are all straightforward, low-risk tasks. If the door is sagging, tightening the hinge screws takes ten minutes and sometimes fixes it. If the window is drafty but the sash is intact, a tube of exterior silicone caulk solves the minor seal gaps.
What we don’t recommend doing yourself is anything that involves removing the rough opening framing, cutting into the shed wall, or working with the threshold. A shed door under spring tension or a warped slab can pinch, bind, and drop hard when it comes off the hinges. A window that shatters during removal leaves you with a open hole in a Houston rainstorm and a pile of broken glass at your feet. This is not high-voltage work like a garage door spring, but it’s heavier and sharper than it looks. A door slab weighs more than you think, and it lands exactly where you’re standing.
If you’re comfortable checking and tightening, start there. If the frame is soft, the glass is broken, or the door won’t shut, call (940) 289-7658. We’ll look at the photos, give you a written price, and show up with the right part the first time.
FAQs

In Houston’s climate, expect the original Tuff Shed windows and doors to last 8 to 15 years before something fails, with doors failing before windows in most cases. Ground moisture and humidity cycles are the main culprits, not the quality of the original build. A shed that sits on a poured slab with good drainage from the downspouts will keep its door frame for the long end of that range. A shed set on piers with no rain guard underneath will rot the bottom rail faster. Call (940) 289-7658 if you’re seeing swelling or soft spots; earlier is always cheaper than later.
Sometimes. If the door slab is sound and the problem is the hinges, the threshold, or the frame at the bottom corners, we can often rebuild those components for $90 to $220 and save the original door. If the slab itself is warped, split, or rotten, replacement is cheaper than trying to coax a warped door back into shape. Houston humidity doesn’t un-warp a door. Call (940) 289-7658 with photos and measurements, and we’ll tell you which path makes sense for your shed.
Most single window or single door replacements are done in under three hours from the time we arrive on site. Double door replacements, or jobs that require frame repair, run four to six hours. You don’t need to be home for the install if the shed is accessible, but we’ll walk you through the finished work and hand you the written guarantee before we leave. Call (940) 289-7658 to schedule.
We keep the most common Tuff Shed window sizes and door sizes on the truck so we can complete most replacements in a single visit. If your shed has an unusual size, we source the part within a few days and schedule the install once it arrives. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone builds. Call (940) 289-7658 with your measurements and we’ll know before we arrive whether the part is already on the truck.
