Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If your Atlas paver driveway, walkway, or patio is showing failed joints, sunken sections, or cracked pavers, we install Atlas-compatible replacement pavers and fix the base issues that caused the failure. A typical Atlas paver repair in Houston runs $700 – $3,500 depending on square footage and whether the substrate needs recompacting, while a full Atlas paver driveway replacement runs $7,000 – $18,000. Most owners notice the problem the same way: a paver rocks underfoot after a rain, or a section sinks an inch below the surrounding surface and holds water.
Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Atlas, but we work with their paver lines regularly because homeowners in Houston’s clay-heavy soil run into the same three failures: base washout, edge restraint failure, and joint sand loss. We keep Atlas-compatible pavers on hand and can match legacy Atlas color blends that big-box stores no longer carry.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas manufactures concrete pavers in three broad product families: standard interlocking pavers (60mm thickness for pedestrian use, 80mm for driveways), permeable pavers with wider joint gaps for drainage, and slab-style pavers cut in larger formats. The 60mm pavers are the ones we see fail most often in Houston because they were installed under vehicle loads they weren’t rated for. If you’re not sure what you have, pull a paver from the edge and measure the thickness with a tape measure. That single number tells us 80% of what we need to know.
Color matching is where most Atlas repairs go sideways. Atlas runs seasonal color batches, and a paver purchased in 2018 in the Sierra Blend will not match a 2024 run of the same name. We photograph the damaged area, bring physical samples to the site, and match against current Atlas stock before we quote a repair. For OEM versus aftermarket: Atlas pavers are manufactured to ASTM C936 standards, and quality aftermarket pavers meeting that same spec perform identically in Houston conditions. We’ll quote either, and we’ll tell you the price difference up front.

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- A paver rocks or rattles when you step on it. This usually means joint sand has washed out and the paver has lost its lateral lock. Left alone, edge chipping starts within a season.
- Water pools in a low spot for more than an hour after rain. The base underneath has settled or washed away. In Houston’s gumbo clay, this happens faster than in drier markets because the soil expands and contracts hard through wet-dry cycles.
- Weeds or grass pushing up between pavers. Joint sand is gone and organic material is filling the gap. The pavers aren’t locked together anymore, and both the weeds and the loss of sand accelerate further failure.
- Edge pavers drifting outward at the driveway or walkway boundary. The plastic or aluminum edge restraint failed or was never installed. Once the edge lets go, the entire field of pavers loses tension and begins to spread.
- Hairline cracks running across multiple pavers in a line. This points to a compacted-base failure underneath, not a paver defect. Replacing the cracked pavers without fixing the base means the new pavers crack the same way within a year.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Houston pricing for Atlas paver work breaks down by scope:
- Spot repair (a few pavers, joint sand, minor base touch-up): $700 – $1,800
- Section repair (a sunken or spreading area, recompact base, new pavers, new joint sand): $1,800 – $3,500
- Full Atlas paver driveway replacement: $7,000 – $18,000
- Paver patio installation (new Atlas patio): $3,500 – $11,000
Every quote from Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is a written price before work starts. The number includes demolition and haul-off of failed material, base prep and compaction, the pavers and bedding sand, joint sand, edge restraint, and cleanup. If the job requires drainage correction, that’s a separate written line item, not a surprise at the end. And every completed paver project carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, and Curtis Lane signs off on every written guarantee himself.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things an owner can safely check without touching a tool. First, confirm the paver thickness with a tape measure so we know what you’re working with. Second, note where water pools after a storm and mark those spots with landscape flags before we arrive. Those two observations speed up the diagnostic on our end and save you money.
What we don’t recommend is pulling up a sunken section and trying to re-level it yourself. The hard part of paver repair is never the pavers, it’s the base. If the base underneath wasn’t compacted right or has washed out, anything you set on top of it will fail again. For Atkinson-area homes on heavy clay, we typically excavate deeper than the original install, lay geotextile fabric, and recompact in lifts. That’s not a weekend project. If you’d rather not spend a Saturday learning why pavers sink, call us at (940) 289-7658 and we’ll come look at it.
FAQs

Atlas concrete pavers rated for driveway use (80mm) typically last 25 – 30 years in Houston when the base is installed correctly and joint sand is refreshed every few years. The pavers themselves rarely fail. The base underneath does, and Houston’s expansive clay accelerates that timeline compared to drier climates.
Yes, if the base is still sound and the failure is limited to chipped or cracked pavers, we can swap individual units and re-sand the joints. If the base has settled or washed out, a spot repair will fail again, and we’ll tell you that plainly before quoting. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll give you an honest read.
A spot repair of a few pavers is typically a half-day job. A section repair with base recompaction takes one to two days. A full driveway replacement runs three to five days depending on square footage and drainage work. We’ll put the schedule in writing with the price.
We stock common Atlas paver sizes and can match current Atlas color blends for Houston jobs. If you have a legacy color that’s been discontinued, we’ll source a documented aftermarket equivalent that meets the same ASTM spec and show you physical samples before we order. You’ll never be asked to chase down materials yourself.
