Atlas Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide

Atlas fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 complete, including posts set in concrete, panels, gates, and hardware. We stock Atlas-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate kits on our trucks, and most single-side replacements go in within one working day once materials are confirmed. The call usually starts the same way: a post leaning hard after a storm, a gate dragging across the driveway, or a section of pickets that won’t stay fastened because the rails behind them rotted out.

Houston’s clay soil and summer humidity are hard on fence systems. The ground swells when it rains and shrinks when it dries, which works posts loose over time even when the original install was done correctly. What looks like a failed panel is often a failed post below grade, and that distinction changes the scope and the price.

Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Atlas fencing. That independence means we match the part to your existing fence line rather than pushing one product over another.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Most Atlas residential fence lines we see in Houston fall into two families: the Atlas Premium Cedar and the Atlas Farm & Ranch board-on-board. Both use the same post-and-rail skeleton, which matters because the failure point is nearly always the post-to-rail connection at the bottom of the system, not the pickets themselves. If your fence has a small Atlas stamp on the back of the bottom rail or on the inside face of a gate stile, that’s the identifier we use to match rails and brackets before any work starts.

The OEM-versus-aftermarket question comes up often. Atlas OEM posts and rails are pressure-treated to their specification and carry the manufacturer’s warranty, but lead times in Houston can stretch two to three weeks depending on the lot. Quality aftermarket equivalents in the same dimensional size, 4×4 or 6×6 for posts, 2×4 rails, will keep the fence structurally sound at roughly 15 – 20% lower material cost. We’re direct about what we’re quoting: OEM when the homeowner wants the Atlas warranty intact, aftermarket when the budget drives the decision and the look still matches. Either way, the line item on your written price tells you which one you’re getting.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Atlas gate kits from before 2018 used a narrower hinge mortise than the current production run. If you hang a new Atlas gate panel on old hinges, the reveal at the latch side will be off by about a half-inch. We check for that before ordering panels so you don’t end up with a gate that won’t close square.

Signs Your Atlas Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean of more than 3 – 4 degrees. This is almost always a below-grade issue, usually rot at the soil line or a concrete footing that’s cracked from Houston’s expanding clay. Straightening a leaning post without addressing the footing means it will lean again within a year.
  • Gate drag or latch misalignment. When the gate post shifts, the latch no longer lines up with the strike. Forcing the gate closed stresses the hinge screws and eventually tears them out of the stile. The gate didn’t change shape; the post moved.
  • Pickets pulling free from the bottom rail. This means the bottom rail has rotted or split. Nails hold in sound wood. If pickets are popping, the rail behind them has lost its grip, and replacing the pickets alone won’t fix the root cause.
  • Soft spots or visible rot at rail ends. Houston’s wet-dry cycle draws moisture into end grain where the rail meets the post. Once the rail ends start to crumble, the whole section is only as strong as the remaining wood, which isn’t much.
  • Fence line sag between posts. Sagging sections usually mean oversized spacing on the original install or rails that have bowed from moisture cycling. The fix is a new rail at the correct span, not more pickets.

Curtis Lane has seen every one of these on Houston fence lines more times than he can count. His read on it is simple: the fence tells you what’s wrong. You just have to know which joint to look at.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, expect to pay $3,500 – $9,000 for a complete Atlas-compatible fence installation, depending on footage, post depth, gate count, and whether we’re pulling the old line or replacing sections within an existing run. A single-section repair, one post replacement plus two rails and resetting existing pickets, lands in the $1,200 – $2,200 range. A full property line redo with two gates typically pushes toward the top of the range.

Every written price includes the same items: material line items with brand and spec, labor, concrete, hardware, haul-away of the old material, and a signed written guarantee under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the fence fails within that year, we return and correct it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it applies to every gate, post, and picket we set in Houston.

The number doesn’t move at the door. We price the scope, you approve the scope, and the written number is the number you pay unless the scope changes and you approve the change in writing first. Straight scope, straight number, that’s the whole conversation.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely check: visible rot at rail ends, loose pickets, a gate hinge that’s pulling out of the wood, standing water at the base of posts. These are diagnostic, not repairs, but knowing what you’re seeing makes the phone call more productive.

Where DIY goes wrong is below grade and at the structural joints. Setting a new post in Houston clay means digging to the correct depth for your soil type, using the right concrete mix, and grading away from the post so water doesn’t pool at the base. Do it wrong and the post leans again in eight months. Gate reconstruction is the same story: hinge geometry and post plumb are what make a gate close clean for years. None of this requires a license, but it requires experience with Houston ground conditions and a level that doesn’t lie. We’ve corrected enough homeowner post-sets to say plainly: this is one repair where calling first is cheaper than fixing twice.

If you’re seeing a failing post, a dragging gate, or rails giving out, call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll schedule a free estimate. We’ll put the scope and the number in writing, and you can decide from there.
