Barrette Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Barrette-compatible driveway and paver replacement parts across Houston, with typical installed repair costs running $250 to $700 for sealing and $5,000 to $14,000 for full driveway replacement depending on material and square footage. Most Barrette failures show up as cracked pavers, shifting edges, or crumbling joint sand after a hard Houston rain cycle. You’ll usually notice the problem first as a tripping hazard at the driveway lip or a low spot collecting water against the garage slab.

Barrette’s paver and edging systems age differently in Southeast Texas than they do up north. The Houston freeze-thaw cycle isn’t the issue it is in, say, Minneapolis. What kills Barrette product here is water intrusion through failed joint sand, followed by clay-soil movement that shifts the base. When we open up a Barrette driveway in Cypress or Katy, nine times out of ten the paver itself is fine. The substrate underneath gave out.

Bradford Remodeling Co Houston is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Barrette. But we work with their product every week, we know which part numbers cross-reference, and we keep the common failure points on our trucks so a diagnostic visit usually turns into a same-day fix.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette manufactures a few distinct paver and edging lines, and the replacement part you need depends on which one is under your feet. Their cobblestone and slab pavers share a common dimensional base: most are 4×8, 6×9, or 12×12, in thicknesses from 2-3/8 inches for pedestrian patios to 3-1/8 inches for drive-rated traffic. The gotcha: Barrette’s driveway-rated pavers are a full 3-1/8 inches thick. If a well-meaning handyman or landscaper laid 2-3/8-inch patio pavers on your driveway, they will crack under car weight, and replacing a few pieces won’t fix the design error.

The second compatibility point is the edging system. Barrette’s plastic paver restraint and steel edging each require a specific stake and clip pattern. If your driveway edges are spreading, we check whether the original edging is still buried or if it’s been mower-struck and pulled loose. Often the edging is the actual part that failed, and the pavers just followed it.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for structural pavers, we strongly prefer matching Barrette product from the same color lot. Dyes shift between production runs. If we patch a Houston driveway with a close-but-not-exact gray from another maker, the sun will show the difference within two seasons. For edging, joint sand, and base aggregate, quality aftermarket equivalents perform as well or better. Our advice comes down to this: match the visible piece exactly, use best-in-class on the hidden material.

Signs Your Barrette Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Joint sand washing out after every rain. Houston’s afternoon downpours push water through the paver joints. If you see sand running into the street after a storm, the polymer sand has broken down and water is now eroding the base. This is the earliest and cheapest fix.
  • Pavers rocking underfoot or under tire. When a paver moves, the sand bedding layer has failed underneath it. Rocking is a sign that the base has started to erode. One rocking paver is a repair. Ten rocking pavers mean we’re pulling a section, re-setting the base, and re-laying.
  • Edge pavers pulling away from the driveway border. The restraint edging below the soil has failed or been hit by a mower. Once the edge lets go, paver migration starts and worsens every month it isn’t addressed. This is the most common path to a full driveway repair bill in Houston.
  • Low spots holding water against the garage slab. Barrette driveways sit on a compacted base. When that base washes out under a low spot, water pools. That standing water seeps into the garage threshold, into the slab joint, and over time it undermines more of the field. This is where paver repair becomes driveway structure repair.
  • Cracked or chipped pavers in the wheel path only. A paver that fails under wheel load but looks fine elsewhere tells us the base compaction was uneven in that lane, or the pavers in that path are driveway-rated but the base stone was too thin. Replacing the cracked piece without fixing the base just means replacing it again in eighteen months.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

In Houston, you should expect to pay $250 to $700 for driveway sealing with polymer sand replacement, and $7,000 to $18,000 for a full Barrette-compatible paver driveway installation where new base, edging, and pavers are required. A partial repair, depending on the size of the failed section, typically lands between those numbers. The broad range exists because driveway length, soil condition, and edge detail all change the labor and material math. A 400-square-foot driveway in The Heights costs differently than an 800-square-foot double-wide in Pearland.

Every price we write includes the full scope: removal and disposal of failed material, base compaction, edging replacement, paver install, polymer sand, and final grade check. That price is in writing before any work starts. It does not change at the door. If we open a section and the base is worse than the write-up assumed, we stop, show you, and re-scope the number before proceeding. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed work for a full year: if the repair fails in that window, we return and correct it at no charge. Whether we install OEM Barrette or matched equivalent depends on what your existing color lot and spec require, and that decision is documented line by line in the written quote.

DIY or Call Us?

Paver and driveway work doesn’t carry the same injury risk as a garage door spring or an electrical panel. You won’t hurt yourself re-sanding a joint. What you will do is waste a Saturday and roughly $150 in materials only to have the washout return in six weeks if the base grade isn’t corrected and the sand isn’t worked into the joints with proper compaction. The hidden risk is working on an area where the base has failed: it’s unstable, it can shift while you’re on it, and a 3-1/8-inch paver dropped on a foot during removal is no joke.

What an owner can safely do: sweep and remove loose surface sand, note where water pools, and keep a log of how the low spot changes after each big Houston storm. That’s useful diagnostic information. Then call (940) 289-7658 and read it to us. We’ll tell you whether what you’re describing is a re-sand job or a base repair, and we’ll put the number in writing either way.

FAQs

How long should Barrette pavers last in Houston?
With a properly compacted base and maintained polymer joints, Barrette driveway pavers should last 25 to 30 years in Houston’s climate before full replacement is needed. The pavers themselves don’t wear out. What fails first is the joint sand, then the base. Re-sanding every 3 to 5 years extends the driveway’s life significantly, and most Houston homes never need a full re-pave if that maintenance is done on schedule.

Can a cracked Barrette paver be repaired instead of replaced?
A cracked paver cannot be meaningfully repaired; it needs to be replaced with a matching piece from the same or closest available color lot. The real question is why it cracked. If the paver is driveway-rated and properly bedded, isolated cracks are rare. If multiple pavers in the same lane crack, the base is the problem and simply swapping the broken pieces will just produce new cracks within a year. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll tell you which situation you have.

How long does a paver repair take?
A typical joint re-sanding takes a few hours from setup to clean. A section repair, where we pull failed pavers, re-establish the base, and re-lay, is usually done in a single day. Full driveway replacement in Houston runs three to five working days depending on square footage and access. We include the timeline in the written scope so you know exactly what “done” looks like before we start.

Do you stock Barrette-compatible parts in Houston?
We keep common joint sand, edging, and short-run paver lengths on our trucks for immediate repairs. Specific Barrette color lots and larger paver quantities are ordered to spec once the written quote is approved. We also work with other documented brands including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so material sourcing for the full project never depends on a single vendor.

If your Barrette driveway is showing early signs of failure, or you just want a straight answer on what it will cost to make it right, call (940) 289-7658. We’ll schedule a site look, write the scope, and hand you a number. Straight scope, straight number, that’s the whole conversation.
