Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Boxabl bathroom remodeling in Houston typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re doing a full gut, a fixture swap, or something in between. We stock Boxabl-compatible bathroom components on the truck in Houston and can usually start the rough-in within five to seven business days of your written estimate. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a soft spot in the bathroom floor near the shower pan, a vanity that’s pulling away from the wall, or a fan that’s been buzzing for months and finally quit.
We’re an independent Houston contractor, not affiliated with Boxabl, but we’ve been working on their factory-built bathroom modules long enough to know where they fail and how to fix them properly. The good news: Boxabl bathrooms are built on a standardized 40-inch or 48-inch wet-wall grid, which means the plumbing rough-in is predictable. The bad news: when something fails, it’s usually because the original seal or substrate wasn’t prepped for Houston humidity, and that’s a repair you don’t want to guess at.
Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

Every Boxabl Casita ships with the same core bathroom layout, so the compatibility question is less about model year and more about which fixtures and finishes your unit was optioned with. The wet wall, where the shower valve, supply lines, and drain stack live, is milled to a standard opening. That’s the part we can work around confidently. The vanity cabinet, the shower surround, and the flooring are where variations show up, and where you need to check the build sheet before ordering parts.
One compatibility gotcha to know before you buy anything: Boxabl’s factory shower pan is set to a 0.5-inch slope, which is code-minimum for Texas but marginal for Houston’s humidity. If you’re replacing the pan, don’t buy a like-for-like OEM pan and call it done. We spec a 0.75-inch sloped pan from a third-party manufacturer that holds up better in a bathroom that sees 60 percent relative humidity half the year. That’s the kind of change that prevents a $4,000 subfloor repair three years from now.
When you open the vanity door, look for a white label on the inside of the cabinet frame. It’ll have the unit’s serial and the fixture pack code. Send us a photo of that label and we can confirm what’s compatible before you spend a dollar on parts.

Signs Your Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Soft spots in the floor around the shower curb. Water is wicking under the pan and into the substrate. By the time the vinyl flexes underfoot, the OSB beneath is already delaminating.
- Drywall bubbling or paint peeling at the ceiling edge above the shower. That’s steam migrating into the wall cavity. The factory bath fan is undersized for Houston, and the moisture has nowhere to go.
- The vanity is pulling away from the wall or the cabinet door won’t stay shut. Humidity has swollen the MDF frame. MDF and Houston are a bad marriage. We swap to plywood boxes when we remodel.
- A musty smell that comes back after cleaning. Mold is growing behind the shower surround or under the toilet flange. Silicone won’t fix it. The affected material has to come out.
- Water pressure drops when someone flushes the toilet. The original supply line is either undersized or crimped at the manifold. It’s a small fix on its own, but it usually points to a rough-in we’d want to correct while the wall is open.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Boxabl bathroom remodel in Houston lands between $9,000 and $28,000. Here’s how that breaks down:
- Fixture refinish (new vanity, toilet, faucets, lighting, bath fan): $9,000 to $14,000
- Tub-to-shower conversion with new pan and tile surround: $12,000 to $18,000
- Full gut remodel including rough-in repair, waterproofing, and new floor: $18,000 to $28,000
Every one of those numbers includes parts, labor, haul-away, and a written scope of work before we pick up a tool. What moves the price is what we find under the old fixture: a rotted subfloor, a misrouted vent stack, or a shower valve that was never strapped to the framing. You’ll know the line-items before we start, and that number doesn’t change at the door. The Garrison Standard puts the price and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing on every job, so if the work fails inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: pull the escutcheon plate off the shower valve and look for moisture stains behind it, run the fan and hold a tissue to the grille to see if it’s actually pulling air, and check the toilet for rocking at the flange. Those are cheap diagnostic steps.
What you shouldn’t do is open the wet wall or pull the shower pan as a DIY project. The drain, the supply lines, and the waterproof membrane all meet in that cavity, and a mistake there means water inside your wall structure. That’s a conversation you don’t want to have with a mold remediation company in August. If you’re seeing the signs above, call us at (940) 289-7658 and we’ll put eyes on it.
FAQs

In Houston’s climate, expect five to eight years out of the factory finishes before humidity starts showing you where the weak points are. With proper waterproofing and plywood substrates, a remodeled bathroom should go twenty years without major work. Call (940) 289-7658 for an assessment of what your unit is showing.
Yes, if the issue is isolated to a single fixture or section of wall. A failed shower pan or a swelled vanity is a replacement job. A loose toilet flange or an undersized fan is a same-day repair. We’ll tell you which one you have before quoting anything.
A fixture-level remodel runs seven to ten working days. A full gut with rough-in correction and new waterproofing takes two to three weeks. You’ll have a written schedule as part of the scope, and we don’t leave the job dark.
We keep the common items: shower valves, supply lines, bath fans, toilet flanges, and plywood vanity boxes. We can also source and install components from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone if you want to upgrade beyond factory finishes. Fiberglass shower pans and custom surrounds we order to spec, which adds a few days to the schedule.
If you’re looking at a bathroom that’s starting to fail in your Boxabl, call (940) 289-7658 and ask for Curtis. Straight scope, straight number – that’s the whole conversation. We’ll walk the job with you, give you a written price before anything starts, and stand behind the finished work for a full year. And if you call after hours, a live person still picks up.
