CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have a CertainTeed paver driveway or walkway in Houston and a section has failed, we stock compatible replacement pavers and can typically match the color and profile the same day we inspect. Installed repair work on a CertainTeed paver driveway in Houston runs $700 to $4,500 depending on how many pavers failed, whether the base shifted, and how much excavation the repair requires. Most failures show up the same way: a low spot forms after heavy rain, pavers start rocking underfoot, or a section sinks where tree roots or a washed-out base left nothing solid underneath.
CertainTeed built its reputation on roofing and siding, but its paver and driveway products were sold through select Houston suppliers for years and still show up in dozens of neighborhoods we work, from Meyerland to Kingwood. Owners usually notice the problem when a paver cracks at the corner, a joint opens up wide enough to catch a shoe heel, or water pools where it used to drain. The good news: we can almost always repair the failed section without tearing out the whole driveway.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed offered paver products under a few different lines over the years, and the naming is where Houston homeowners get tripped up. The three you are most likely to have: CertainTeed Residential Pavers, the CertainTeed Highland Stone series, and a smaller line called CertainTeed Countryside Pavers that showed up in a lot of 1990s and early 2000s Houston subdivisions. Each line used different thicknesses and edge profiles. Highland Stone ran 60mm thick on average. Countryside pavers were thinner, usually 50mm. Residential Pavers depended on the lot, but most Houston installs we see are 60mm drive-grade units.
The fastest way to identify exactly what you have is to pull one paver from an edge or corner. Flip it over. CertainTeed stamped a mold number and batch code on the underside of most units. If the stamp is worn off, measure the thickness in millimeters and check the edge profile, chamfered or square. Bring that paver to us or send a photo with a tape measure held against it, and we can usually match it from our Houston supplier network within a day or two. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: CertainTeed no longer manufactures pavers under its own name, so OEM stock is gone. What we use now are quality aftermarket units from manufacturers who cast to the same dimensions and color formulas CertainTeed specified. A proper color match is the real skill, and we’ve matched enough Houston jobs to know which suppliers hold which color lots.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Low spots that hold water after a Houston downpour. This is the number one call we get. The base layer under the pavers has washed out or settled, and the pavers drop with it. Water pools instead of draining, which accelerates the problem.
- Rocking or shifting pavers underfoot. A paver that moves when you step on it means the bedding sand underneath has migrated. On a Houston clay soil, this happens faster than people expect, especially around downspouts or sprinkler heads.
- Widening joints between pavers. Joints that open up tell you the pavers are spreading. The edge restraint has failed or was never installed properly. Without it, the whole field slowly drifts toward the weakest edge.
- Corner cracks on individual pavers. This is a point-load failure: a vehicle tire repeatedly hitting the same paver edge, or a low spot that finally gave way. One cracked corner is a simple swap. A dozen cracked corners is a grading problem.
- White mineral deposits or efflorescence. Houston humidity pulls moisture through the pavers, and dissolved minerals leave a chalky white film on the surface. It’s usually cosmetic, but it tells you water is moving through the paver the wrong way, and the base may be saturated.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

The installed cost to repair or replace a section of CertainTeed driveway and pavers in Houston runs from $700 to $4,500. Small jobs, like swapping eight or ten cracked pavers and re-sanding the joints, land at the bottom of that range. Mid-range work, a 100-square-foot section where the base has to be re-excavated, re-compacted, and the pavers re-laid, runs $1,800 to $3,200. A full paver driveway replacement in Houston is a different scope entirely, and that starts at $7,000 and runs to $18,000 depending on square footage and site access.
Here’s what that money covers:
- Demolition and haul-off of the failed pavers and base material
- Excavation to the correct depth, usually 7 to 9 inches total
- New compacted aggregate base, typically 4 to 6 inches
- Fresh bedding sand screeded level
- Replacement pavers matched to your existing color and profile
- Polymeric sand in the joints, compacted and cured
- Edge restraint reinstalled or replaced where needed
The price is written down before we start, per The Garrison Standard. That means the number on the estimate is the number on the invoice, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise is attached to every paver repair we complete. If the repair fails within a full year of the day we finish, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, on the estimate, before the first paver gets pulled.
DIY or Call Us?
Pavers are not a high-tension part, but they are heavier and more exacting than they look. The danger in a DIY paver repair isn’t a spring snapping, it’s doing the base work wrong and paying for the same repair twice. You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the driveway after rain and mark every low spot with chalk, check whether edge restraints are visible and intact, and confirm whether your downspouts are dumping water directly onto the paver field. Those are good notes to bring to a conversation with us.
What we recommend against is pulling a dozen pavers, tossing down a bag of play sand from the big box store, and calling it fixed. Play sand is the wrong material. It washes out in the first heavy rain, and the pavers settle worse than before. On a Houston clay base, you need a compacted aggregate layer and proper screeded bedding sand, and that’s a job for a crew with a plate compactor and a long level. If you’re on the fence, call us at (940) 289-7658 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you straight whether it’s worth our trip or whether you can handle it with a bag of polymeric sand and an afternoon.
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway in Houston lasts 25 to 40 years with joint sand replenished every few years. The pavers themselves rarely fail, what gives out first is the base underneath them, especially on Houston’s expansive clay soils, which shrink in drought and swell after rain. If your pavers are failing at year 10, the base was never compacted correctly. Call us at (940) 289-7658 and we’ll inspect the section before you spend money guessing.
A cracked paver gets replaced, not repaired. Patching a paver with epoxy or filler looks worse than the crack did and fails within a season under Houston’s heat and rain. The good news is a single paver swap is a 20-minute job once the matching unit is in hand. Call us at (940) 289-7658 and we’ll source the match.
A small repair, swapping up to 10 pavers and re-sanding joints, is done in one visit, usually 2 to 3 hours. A larger section repair with base re-excavation takes one to two days depending on size and weather. Full driveway replacements run 3 to 5 days in Houston. Written estimates are free; call (940) 289-7658 to schedule one.
We stock a small inventory of common colors and profiles, and we order harder-to-match colors from our Houston supplier network, usually a one-to-two-day lead time. Bring us a paver or a photo with a tape measure, and we’ll give you a straight answer on availability. Estimates are free; call (940) 289-7658.
