Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible driveway and paver components throughout Houston, with typical installed replacement work running $7,000 to $18,000 for a full paver driveway and $250 to $700 for sealing. Most Houston owners discover a failing part the hard way: a paver settles after a heavy rain, an edge restraint gives way, or the polymeric sand between joints washes out after a storm season. The good news is that a failed Mr-Glass paver system rarely means starting from zero. We match the existing paver profile, re-grade the base, and reset the affected area without tearing out the whole drive. Straight scope, straight number – that’s the whole conversation.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass paver systems run on a modular profile system, and the compatibility question comes down to two things: paver thickness and joint width. The residential line typically uses 60mm pavers, while a handful of driveways in Houston’s older neighborhoods, think Montrose and The Heights, were built with 80mm commercial-grade units. You’ll find the profile stamped on the underside of an uninstalled paver or on the edge of an exposed unit near the driveway’s termination. If the stamp is worn, we measure it.

The gotcha: Mr-Glass changed their edge restraint clip design around 2018. Pre-2018 installations used a screw-down aluminum channel (part number starting with MRG-4), and the newer system uses a press-in composite clip. The two don’t mix. If your driveway was built before 2018 and a section of edge restraint has lifted, you need the older channel or a full restraint upgrade, not just a clip patch. We carry both on the truck plus quality aftermarket equivalents that match the profile spec exactly. OEM is the safe default for a warranty-covered repair; a spec-matched aftermarket paver from a reputable Houston supplier cuts 10 to 20 percent off material cost without sacrificing fit.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

These are the five symptoms we see most often on Houston paver driveways, listed roughly in order of how early they appear.

  • Settled or sunken pavers near the driveway apron. This is almost always a base failure. Houston’s gumbo clay expands and contracts with moisture, and if the original install didn’t include a proper crushed-limestone base compacted in lifts, the pavers will sink. A localized reset with base correction runs in the $500 to $1,500 range, depending on square footage.
  • Washed-out sand between joints. Polymeric sand hardens after wetting and curing, but Houston’s torrential downpours can erode it faster than it bonds if the installer didn’t let it cure before the first rain or used a low-grade product. Re-sanding a typical two-car driveway runs $250 to $500.
  • Edge paver drift or a raised restraint line. When the edge restraint fails, pavers start walking toward the lawn or flower bed. If you can see a black or silver restraint channel sticking up, the anchorage spikes have pulled loose from the subgrade. This is a repair, not a resurface.
  • Standing water pooling in low spots for more than an hour after rain. Driveways should be pitched to drain, even Houston’s flat lots. Pooling means the original grade was wrong or the base has shifted enough to disrupt pitch. We correct this by pulling the affected area and re-setting the slope.
  • Crumbled or spalled paver faces, especially near the street. This is a material issue, often from de-icing salts carried in from the road or a low-grade paver mixed into the original order. Individual paver replacement is straightforward and cheap compared to ignoring it; a spalled paver will only take on water and fail further.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, a full Mr-Glass-compatible paver driveway replacement runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed, depending on square footage, base depth, and access. A partial repair, say resetting 100 to 200 square feet of sunken pavers, typically falls between $800 and $2,500. Sealing the whole drive runs $250 to $700. The spread comes from what’s underneath: if the original base was too thin or the soil has heaved, we’re digging out and rebuilding it. If the base is sound, it’s a re-grade and reset.

Your written price includes paver removal, base correction or rebuild, new edge restraints where needed, paver reset, joint sand, and cleanup. We don’t show up with an estimate and then “discover” new costs after the pavers are up. The written price is the price, and it’s in your hand before the first tool comes off the truck. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if the repair fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check three things yourself: whether the edge restraint has pulled away from the grass line, whether water is pooling and where, and whether any pavers wobble under foot. That’s a useful phone conversation. What you shouldn’t do is pull up a section of pavers to investigate the base. Once the interlocking pattern is broken and the sand bed disturbed, putting it back level with the proper pitch is the kind of job that separates a repair from a re-do. And don’t attempt to reset a heavy 80mm commercial paver by hand; a single unit can weigh over 20 pounds, and a twisted back on a driveway project is a bad trade. If the failure is more than a couple of wobbling pavers, call (940) 289-7658 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you if it’s a fix we can do in a day or a base rebuild that needs a crew.
