PGT Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
PGT fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter install, and we stock PGT-compatible components on the truck for most standard residential models. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably got a section of PGT fencing that’s sagging, pulling loose from a post, or showing hardware failure after a few hard Houston summers. The good news is that PGT fencing is built to a consistent spec, which means we can match your existing sections without guesswork.
What most Houston owners discover is that the fence itself rarely fails all at once. It starts with one post leaning after a heavy rain, a gate that drags on the concrete, or a bottom rail that’s started to rot at the fasteners. You’re not alone in this. Houston’s clay soil expands and contracts through our wet-dry cycles, and that movement is harder on fence posts than anything else we see. Curtis Lane has pulled more leaning PGT posts out of Houston yards than he can count, and the failure pattern is almost always the same: moisture at the base, soil shifting, and a post that was never set deep enough to begin with. Straight scope, straight number, that’s the whole conversation.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT manufactures residential fence systems in a few distinct product lines, and the compatibility gotcha is this: PGT’s aluminum fence panels and gate frames use proprietary post profiles, which means a standard big-box post will not accept PGT brackets cleanly. You need either genuine PGT posts or a machined adapter. If your fence was installed before roughly 2018, you’re likely dealing with PGT’s older 2-inch square post system. Newer installs usually use the 2.5-inch profile. Measure the post face before ordering anything.
We’re an independent Houston contractor, not a PGT dealer or affiliate. That matters because we give you the honest OEM-versus-aftermarket call without a brand loyalty tax. For PGT gates and structural posts, we specify OEM or a machined equivalent that matches the wall thickness within a few thousandths of an inch. For pickets and top rails, a quality aftermarket extrusion is often indistinguishable, and it saves real money. We’ll show you both numbers in writing before any work starts, and we’ll explain what we’re putting in and why it won’t rust out in three years.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean after rain. This is Houston’s signature fence problem. Our expansive clay soil swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and a post set shallow will walk out of plumb. You’ll see the lean worsen in spring and fall.
- Gate drags or won’t latch. When the gate post shifts even half an inch, the latch stops lining up. Forcing it wears the hardware faster and eventually bends the hinge brackets, at which point the whole panel needs re-hanging.
- White chalky residue on aluminum. That’s oxidation, and it means the factory powder coat has failed or was scratched during install. Water gets under the finish and the aluminum starts to pit. Touch-up paint won’t stop it long-term.
- Fasteners pulling through the rail. If you can see the screw heads backing out or the rail holes wallowed oval, the metal has been flexing. That flex is a sign the panel is carrying load it wasn’t designed for, usually from a failing post.
- Bottom rail rot or corrosion at ground contact. Aluminum should not rot, but a wood-core PGT post or a buried steel insert can. In Houston’s humidity, trapped moisture at the base works fast once the protective coating is compromised.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full PGT fence installation in Houston runs $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, post condition, gate count, and whether we’re pulling old posts or setting fresh ones. Sectional repair, meaning we replace a run of panels and a few posts, usually lands between $1,200 and $3,000. Here’s how the line items break down on a typical Houston job:
- Post removal and reset: $85 to $150 per post, including concrete and disposal
- New PGT-compatible post with bracket: $45 to $90 per post, material only
- Panel section replacement: $120 to $220 per 6-foot section, material and install labor
- Gate re-hang with new hardware: $250 to $500 per gate, including hinge and latch kit
- Full perimeter install (150 to 250 linear feet): $3,500 to $9,000 all-in
Every quote we write in Houston includes the same thing: a line-item parts list, a labor number, and a signed scope sheet before we touch a shovel. No allowances for surprises, no vague “miscellaneous” line. And the whole job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If a post shifts or a gate stops latching inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the fence line and mark leaning posts, test each gate latch, and look for pulled fasteners. That inspection tells us a lot on the phone and helps us bring the right parts on the first trip. What we don’t recommend is digging out and resetting a fence post on your own in Houston. If the fence is PGT aluminum with a tensioned gate, releasing the panel tension wrong can send a rail into someone. That’s a real risk, not a scare line.
Where DIY usually goes wrong is the underground part. Houston’s clay needs the post hole bell-shaped at the bottom, not straight-sided, and the concrete needs to be mixed on the dry side so it grips instead of shrinking away. Get that wrong and you’ll be resetting the same post next spring. Most Houston homeowners who try this once call us the second time. If you’d rather skip the first attempt, call (940) 289-7658. We’ll give you a number in writing before any work starts.
FAQs

A properly installed PGT aluminum fence lasts 20 to 30 years in Houston if the posts are set deep enough and the hardware is checked every couple of years. The weak point isn’t the aluminum. It’s the post footing and the gate hardware, both of which usually need attention around year 10. Call (940) 289-7658 for a free estimate and we’ll inspect your whole fence line.
Almost always, yes. Unless the aluminum itself is bent or the post base has completely corroded, we can reset posts, replace hardware, and re-hang gates without tearing out the full fence. Full replacement only makes sense when the majority of posts are compromised. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll be straight about which one you’re looking at.
Most full PGT fence installations in Houston take 2 to 4 working days from start to clean site. Sectional repairs and single post resets are usually done in one day. Concrete needs a full 24 hours to cure before we set panels on new posts.
Yes. We keep PGT-compatible posts, brackets, and gate hardware on the truck for standard Houston residential models. If you’ve got a non-standard profile or an older 2-inch post system, we’ll source the right part and have it in hand before we schedule the work. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll confirm what we’re bringing before we arrive.
