Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Houston and want Techo-Bloc hardscaping worked into the perimeter, patios, or retaining details, the installed work typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 for the full addition, and we can usually schedule your site walk within the week. What brings most owners to us is simpler: they have a Techo-Bloc product already on the property and a wall, step, or paver run has shifted, spalled, or failed at the joint. Maybe it’s a retaining course that’s started to lean after two heavy rain seasons, or a patio edge that’s dropped because the base was never compacted right. The fix is rarely just cosmetic.
We’re an independent Houston contractor. We install and repair Techo-Bloc product every season, but we’re not a Techo-Bloc affiliate, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is a crew that puts the number in writing before the first tool comes off the truck, and stands behind the completed job for a full year under the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc builds its paver and wall lines in set families, and the compatibility matters more than most homeowners expect. The big three you’ll see around Houston are Blu 60, Blu 80, and Raffinato for pavers, plus Mini-Creta and Semma for walls. Each family has its own joint width, unit thickness, and face texture, and they don’t always interchange cleanly, even within the same family across production years. A Blu 60 paver from 2016 is not always a direct color match to a Blu 60 run from 2022.
The way to identify what you have: flip a loose paver and look for the raised product code on the underside, usually a four-to-six-character marking. Walls will have the code on the back face or on the top lip of the cap unit. If you’re matching an existing patio or wall run, we pull that code and check color lot compatibility with current stock before we quote. For Techo-Bloc specifically, we strongly prefer OEM product or Techo-Bloc-authorized equivalent. The aftermarket pavers that look “close enough” online almost never match the chamfer, the surface texture, or the fade rate, and two years later the patch looks like a patch.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Edge pavers sinking at the perimeter. This is almost always a base issue, not a paver issue. The edge restraint wasn’t staked or the base wasn’t compacted in lifts. Water follows the low spot, the base washes out, and the drop gets worse every rain.
- Retaining wall leaning or bulging mid-span. In Houston’s clay soil, this usually means the wall was built without proper drainage behind it. Hydrostatic pressure builds, and the wall pushes out. If you’re seeing a bulge, stop parking or walking near the top of that wall.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain. A little loss is normal. Continuous loss means the base is moving or the pavers weren’t bedded tight. You’ll start to hear them click underfoot before you see the gaps.
- Surface spalling or flaking on paver tops. This is common with de-icing salts and cheap sealers, but in Houston it’s more often moisture trapped under a non-breathable sealer. The top layer pops, and the paver face looks like it’s peeling.
- Steps or caps with cracked units at the bond line. When a cap unit splits clean and moves, the adhesive below has failed, or the cap was installed over a joint line instead of staggered. That’s a structural fix, not a touch-up.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a home addition or ADU with Techo-Bloc hardscape work in Houston, plan on $45,000 to $130,000 all-in, depending on square footage, foundation requirements, and how much wall and paver work is in scope. If you’re only repairing a section of Techo-Bloc, the number drops fast: a small patio edge rebuild runs $3,500 to $11,000 in most Houston yards, and a leaning wall reset in good soil can stay under $10,000 if we can salvage the units.
What drives the range on a full addition: existing foundation condition, whether the ADU gets its own utilities or ties into the house, HVAC rough-in, and the square footage of Techo-Bloc hardscape outside. Every quote we hand you is a written line-item price, and the number doesn’t move at the door. The completed work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within the year, we come back and correct it at no charge. You get that guarantee in writing, signed, at close.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely look at the obvious stuff: a paver that’s rocking, a cap that’s slid, a joint that’s opened up. Take photos, mark the area, and don’t walk heavy traffic over a leaning wall. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling units out of a wall or a patio edge that’s holding grade. When a wall course moves, the next course is carrying more weight than it was set for, and pulling one unit can start a slide. Base repair under Techo-Bloc paver work means cutting out, recompacting in lifts, and resetting grade, and that’s equipment and experience, not a weekend. If it’s a footing or drainage issue behind a retaining wall, that’s dig work, and Houston clay doesn’t give it back easy.
The good news: we bring the product knowledge with us. Curtis Lane will tell you what’s salvageable and what isn’t, and the number you get is the number on the invoice. Straight scope, straight number, that’s the whole conversation. Call (940) 289-7658 for a free estimate.
FAQs

A correctly installed Techo-Bloc paver patio or walkway in Houston lasts 25 to 35 years before the surface shows meaningful wear, but only if the base and drainage were done right the first time. Fail the base and you’ll see problems inside three to five years.
Yes, and we do it often. If the units are intact and the color match holds, we can lift, re-base, and reset a section without buying new product. If the units are spalled or the color lot can’t be matched, partial replacement is the better call. Call (940) 289-7658 and we’ll tell you straight which applies.
A paver edge rebuild or wall reset usually runs two to four working days from start to compacted final grade. A full ADU with Techo-Bloc hardscape in the scope runs weeks, not days, and we put the schedule in the written proposal.
We keep a standard inventory of joint sand, edge restraint, and base material on the truck, plus a working stock of common Techo-Bloc wall caps and spacer units. Specialty colors and unusual unit sizes get ordered to spec once we confirm the lot match. If you’re also working with KraftMaid, Cambria, or Silestone on the interior side, we can coordinate those scope items through the same written proposal.
